First Nations in British Columbia are fighting to save wild salmon from sea lice infestations caused by comnercial salmon farming.

' Since the first concerning reports of sea lice emerged ... [First Nations] have requested actions to protect wild salmon, which have already declined in the last century due to years of logging, destruction of creeks, agriculture, pollution, and industrial activities ... '

#Canada is committed, via #cop15, to protect 25% of its land by 2025 and 30% by 2030.

#Key #Biodiversity #Areas are going to be a big part of that. And of course it's not as simple as simply drawing a new line on a map.

This article covers some of the opportunity and complexities well. In particular, this goal can only be met with #Indigenous #consultation and authentic #partnerships:

Imagine if the national political media set out to broadly educate Americans about these basic facts.

A huge herd of bison, containing up to 170 of the animals, has been spotted in Poland.

Scientists say it is the largest they have ever seen.

One thing that seems bad here is that some people - people I've followed, so I like them! - tend to post dozens of posts in a row. On Twitter, these might be part of a thread, so most of them get hidden under the initial tweet.

Maybe it's just force of habit, but it sometimes seems like spam. I've already had to mute people on account of this. I mean, I like you - but not 20 times in a row!

This is how you act when there was a military dictatorship in living memory.

Happening right now:

Brazilian president Lula, the president of the supreme court, and governors (or vice gvns) of every single state, including those who supported Bolsonaro, together in the same room, unilaterally condemning the failed coup.

Quite amazing really.

Friendly reminder: The perfect is the enemy of the good.

Whether the problem is climate change, racism, or anything else, you're not helping solve things when you attack people whose initial efforts in that area are imperfect in your eyes.

Not everyone will give up fossil fuels and live in a grass hut to combat climate change. Not everyone will be a radical antiracist whose life is dedicated to the cause.

Appreciate and encourage the small steps people take, and continue to encourage more.

Perhaps a somewhat dull appearance, but a beautiful behaviour during mating season, when males fly and hover up very high, up to over 100 meters ... nonstop singing their love song, then falling down like a rock and starting the process all over again.
