Got @alvaroprieto@twitter.com USB cable tester back from JLCPCB. Great quality on the assembly, was ~5$ each shipped for 5pcs.

First light on PicoTouchSynth and the capsense pads work better than my PicoTouch board! And the reverse-mount #NeoPixel LEDs are totally awesome. The test code is in #CircuitPython of course

Sun 11/27 Stream: Attempting to repair a non-working Game Gear. (We already re-capped it.) twitch.tv/baldengineer

@skanman Yeah, 6 PM Central US. Probably going to trouble shoot the dead Game Gear. But not yet decided.

@skanman Ohhh good point. I was specifically thinking about pyVISA. Looks like the USBTMC module talks to devices through libUSB.

Does macOS have a generic USBTMC driver?

Is it really a Black Friday special if the price is offered “all month long?”
Also, is it the holiday season if someone doesn’t point this out each year?

@EXIT_FAILURE I’ve always struggled with how picture/explain “charge carriers” and “energy” moving.

Other than the direction electrons move, are there any other "wait, wut?" moments to realize about electronics?

@monotrox99 Funny. I was thinking earlier today what would someone in my position do if they didn't have 30 years of futzing with this stuff.

VXI > IVI > LXI || VISA && USBTMC || GPIB || Serial || libusb

And that's just to talk to a DMM.

In Windows, pyvisa cannot see USBTMC devices. In Linux, I can see them fine, but one just randomly stops responding.

Fortunately, it seems like LAN works most of the time.

(It's all made easier if you use NI-VISA, but after reading its licensing, you cannot use it when you are not working with either NI hardware or software...)

If I spend anymore time with pyvisa and USBTMC, I'm going to have even less hair on my head than I do.

80% of the time spent writing instrument automation code is getting to the first success *IDN?.
