100 Mastodon myths:
1. Mastodon is hard.
FALSE. It’s a "soft"ware. Not hardware.
2. You have to use Linux to post on Mastodon.
FALSE. FreeBSD and OpenBSD are also supported.
3. You need to learn to use the Vim editor before posting on Mastodon.
FALSE. There’s also an emacs plugin.
4. Mastodon is only for computer nerds.
FALSE. As you can see, we sometimes try to make jokes that everyone could understand.
I love how #measuretheory simplifies the understanding to introduction of #statistics

Hey lazymastodon, I have a linear algebra question.
So I've been thinking a bit about principle component analysis as of late. The way to find the vector of most variance in a multidimensional dataset is to put every datapoint in a column matrix, multiply that matrix by its transpose, and find the eigenvectors of the resulting square matrix.
Here's my question: I don't have a good intuition for what "multiply the matrix by its transpose" is doing. That compares every point to every other point by multiplying the same-dimension components together and summing the result across dimensions, but like... Why does that result in an interesting matrix instead of a pile of noise?
Are you a #software engineer interested in sustainable software and IT infrastructure? I’d love to connect! Looking to build a network of green engineers on here. 😊🌱
Would or could you tan your beloved pet? And let their corpse live further in your dwelling or would you prefer to remove them from your living corridor once it's their time to go?

Finally tried the last #blacktea CTC Doomor Dullung and compared to the others the aroma wasn't as strong. Though one thing I noticed is that the steeping became accelerated, which makes sense after learning what the CTC method is.
CTC stands for Crushing Tearing Curling and the goal is to create more mass for less volume. Thereby the #tea becomes a granulate, which in return has a higher #caffeine content than teas not using the CTC method.
So since this tea barely grows in volume while steeping it would be a perfect option to brew it via the moka pot method.
A couple hours ago #mindslimitlezz was updated to version 1.4 with the main feature being grid view on all feeds.
Now the project has come to the point that it's slowly creeping up to a thousand lines of code. I'm wondering if it's still a good idea to continue with a #greasemonkey script or better to move the code to a traditional #browserextension?
The Broken Goldspitzen tea is bitter at first sip and has a smoother finish compared to the Herrentee.
This time around I drank half a pint before adding some milk.
The Herrentee has an intense bitterness to the level of quinine bitter.
It should be remarked that I follow the practice of long steeping. Will need try out the other methods like moka pot or cold brew to get the ideal taste to bitterness ratio. Definitely a good tea if you would like to add milk.
You know what mastodon feels like to me right now? You are at a too huge, too loud obnoxious Twitter party. You step outside on to the back porch and discover all the exchange students are there, and the kids from Computer Club, and a couple of Goth kids smoking. You relax and strike up a conversation about anime and then sustainable vertical urban farming.
Suddenly the sliding glass door flies open and the Twitter kids are spilling outside spraying a keg of beer and woo-hooing. Hmm.
#TIL that the definition of being unemployed in the States is not as straightforward as one would assume. All you have to do is work less than one hour for money in the test week. Unemployment is collected via a sample of 60,000 households via a questionnaire. Additionally one needed to look for employment in the past 4 weeks. (There are additional requirements that can be read in the references.)
I feel the data can be very easily skewed like if you didn't work at all during test week (easily calculated), but work the rest of the month. Or the other way around, that you only work that week.
It is bonkers that 1h of paid labor in the test week is sufficient enough to be considered employed.
So if the number is low in the States it could really be because of these observations. But if the number is higher than average, then it seems like the validity of the data is in question.
To see an example checkout the data once the COVID-19 pandemic started.

I am a strong proponent of leaving this planet better behind than when I arrived on it. Thus to get the most bang for a lifetime my key focus is #longevity which I attempt to achieve with #nutrition specifically #plantbased.
Longevity is good and all as long as you are not frail and weak. Ideally would be to die young at an old age. Thus I incorporate tactics from #biohacking and #primalfitness. Additionally I am an advocate of #wildcrafting, which is a super set of #herbalism.
