Feels great that slowly my mathematical knowledge is seeking back in, after not using it rigorously for the past 2a+.

Summary:

Class: 2
Participation: 3

This semester I get to tackle again and to keep my progress up I have decided to start a 50 day .

This idea came upon after successfully completing a 50 day , which got extended to 100 days. Currently a week out of completing 100 days and it feels like second nature doing daily.

The difficulty would be that the one is a science and the other just an activity. So will need to figure out throughout the challenge on how to measure daily accomplishments. At least for there is a daily visual push tracker. So it's quite clear if a day is missing. Might need to implement git repos to get the same effect.

Just got an automatic response on that pointed me to move the discussion further towards . That's when I learnt of the app , which is doing this.

The spooky part is that it happened shortly after changing the status to point towards Signal as well.

Watching the crazy right wing extremists trying to tell me that Mastodon has been built to “save the blue checkmarks from Elon’s Twitter so they can keep hating free speech in their own bubble” is hilarious.

This paper is so awesome it is prompting me to write my first toot.
The science, the writing, the conclusion about scientific writing. I laughed out loud multiple times reading it. Hats off!

Question considering the human ear:

It has been suggested that using speakers are less damaging than headphones on the longevity of hearing. Though can a similar statement be made to sounds that we cannot hear anymore?

Do our ears still work even if we cannot hear the sound? And if they do still work, how much damage is put onto our hearing in the long run?

:) Danke sehr!

protip: always set a calendar reminder for your free trials: you will definitely not remember to cancel just before the paid subscription starts

100 Mastodon myths:

1. Mastodon is hard.

FALSE. It’s a "soft"ware. Not hardware.

2. You have to use Linux to post on Mastodon.

FALSE. FreeBSD and OpenBSD are also supported.

3. You need to learn to use the Vim editor before posting on Mastodon.

FALSE. There’s also an emacs plugin.

4. Mastodon is only for computer nerds.

FALSE. As you can see, we sometimes try to make jokes that everyone could understand.

Hey lazymastodon, I have a linear algebra question.

So I've been thinking a bit about principle component analysis as of late. The way to find the vector of most variance in a multidimensional dataset is to put every datapoint in a column matrix, multiply that matrix by its transpose, and find the eigenvectors of the resulting square matrix.

Here's my question: I don't have a good intuition for what "multiply the matrix by its transpose" is doing. That compares every point to every other point by multiplying the same-dimension components together and summing the result across dimensions, but like... Why does that result in an interesting matrix instead of a pile of noise?

Are you a #software engineer interested in sustainable software and IT infrastructure? I’d love to connect! Looking to build a network of green engineers on here. 😊🌱

199,430 is the number of new users across different Mastodon servers since October 27, along with 437 new servers. This bring last day's total to 608,837 active users, which is without precedent the highest it's ever been for Mastodon and the fediverse.

Finally tried the last CTC Doomor Dullung and compared to the others the aroma wasn't as strong. Though one thing I noticed is that the steeping became accelerated, which makes sense after learning what the CTC method is.

CTC stands for Crushing Tearing Curling and the goal is to create more mass for less volume. Thereby the becomes a granulate, which in return has a higher content than teas not using the CTC method.

So since this tea barely grows in volume while steeping it would be a perfect option to brew it via the moka pot method.

A couple hours ago was updated to version 1.4 with the main feature being grid view on all feeds.

Now the project has come to the point that it's slowly creeping up to a thousand lines of code. I'm wondering if it's still a good idea to continue with a script or better to move the code to a traditional ?

The Broken Goldspitzen tea is bitter at first sip and has a smoother finish compared to the Herrentee.

This time around I drank half a pint before adding some milk.
