Amber Bear Amulet (1700-650 BC) of Hunter, was found in 1887 AD in a peat bog near Slupsk, Poland.
Almost 4 inches long, 1 inch wide, 2 inches high, it is dark reddish gold and translucent. Its rounded body, shortened stubs for legs, ears, snout with two holes for nose and round eyes, gives it appearance of bear cub.
Age of artefact is in dispute although it is thought to be at least 3000 years old. Some scholars believe that it is dated 8500-6500 BC, from Maglemose culture.

Me and the other directors at my new company have been toying with a new idea, paying people for the work they do on interviews (well sorta).
Basically the idea we are toying with is when we give a programming test as part of the interview we basically offer them the choice of either doing a toy project that has no value to us as a company, or giving them the option to fix any outstanding tickets on one of our open-source projects with a bounty attached to it. This way if your programming test gets accepted you stand a good chance of getting the job AND get paid the bounty.
Programming tests never sat right with me because it seems like a huge time investment to ask of someone who might not get a job. So I wanted to make the process more fair and beneficial to applicants.
Would love to hear what #fedihire thinks about this.

you can't just change half of an accounts identifier. you can't with other protocols like activitypub or mail either. they could add an event for account migration though, as clean solution.
like other software and protocols, matrix definitively has it's flaws (like that big groupchat rooms suck) but does other things right as well.

How is it that in 2024 I still can lose half an hour of my work day trying to get a stupid journal article, from a major journal that my university pays for, to open?
I usually route around this bullshit, but I wanted to actually get the publishers copy for once. Bad decision.
I guess this is why scientific peer review has pretty much moved to blog posts about stuff in arXiv...
