“I taught it, but they didn’t learn it.” Those teachers annoy me.

:hacker_f::hacker_s::hacker_e:

Some weird shit going down. Cannot get to fsebugoutzone.org from two regular IPs. Cannot, in fact, get to anything that I have tried in the DC's address space. You can see this post, right? So it's definitely the case that the site is up. I can get here from elsewhere, though, and obviously some Tor exits can get here.

Fedilist reports "Failures since last success" under "Crawling Info", unless there have been no failures, in which case it just leaves that bit out, which it is doing here: http://demo.fedilist.com/instance/fsebugoutzone.org . So, the number of failures has stayed at 861 ("Contact: 12408 successful, 861 failed.") and I'm mentioning that here so I don't forget it.

It is probably not helpful to ask people that can't see fsebugoutzone.org to tel me, but

:ken: When in doubt, use brute force. :ken:

Easiest way to tell this is traceroute, from a handful of machines to a handful of other machines. Frantech, other hosts. The machines that *can't* get to it stop at ae1.mcs2.lax112.us.eth.zayo.com (64.125.28.237). The ones that *can* get to it...also go through Zayo. Weird. So maybe Zayo's not peering right with another backbone provider? Kind of unlikely: the hop right after 64.125.28.237 is 173.46.64.14.IPYX-128160-031-ZYO.zip.zayo.com (173.46.64.14). Also Zayo. That's weird.

Pings to where it stops, 64.125.28.237, those are really slow. That's the hop between Cogent and Zayo. So maybe the pipe between Cogent and Zayo has gone a wobbly one. I don't know.

i won't just say "no" because you ordered me in capslock. it's disrespectful and deserves a stern answer.

i never said you should be grateful.

you should be respectful to people who use their money and their time to provide services for free.

you talk about people "not caring".

if they wouldn't care, they wouldn't provide services in the first place. they could just do a single user fedi instance and have much less things to worry about.

the difference to other things in life where "go elsewhere" might be a shit answer is that you aren't even remotely forced to use someones server.

you aren't forced to use "ALL THESE PROJECTS crappy / degraded culture usually from bad training / capitalism not caring".

you want, and decide, to use these things.

i think you are "not caring" for the people running these services. you want to use something for free and if it doesn't work like you want you borderline insult those providing these services if they don't respond how you wish.

why not rent a $10 vps and run your own instance. if it isn't in your skillset, pay a bit more for a managed one.

it would require the very accountability you demand of others.

@djsumdog @HunDriverWidow
signal certainly checks all boxes!

- guru type moxie

- who shittalks everything else, especially federated services

- signal actively works against 3rd party clients

- server side is running "some version"

- metadata handling is based on "trust us ™️"

- giant money black hole

- required phone number forever

Well, back at work after 2 1/2 weeks off. Good thing nothing happened in tech, security, the country while I was out.

@freeschool @khird you don't pay anything for your account. it's a privilege. regardless if some things don't work.

hosting is paid out of pocket by freemo, the mods are doing their work for free.

you complain about things not working to your liking, while often posting stuff about the value of work and how money and capitalism are bad.

i don't like that some posts error out for me as well, but in the end i am free to switch servers or just host my own :blobcatshrug:

Quantum computers are the coolest ones! Literally

thanks for coming to my ted talk xD

@begsby könnt man jetzt noch überlegen ob die rki geschichte vllt. auch kein zufall ist zu diesem zeitpunkt :)

ich muss morgen los, neue alufolie kaufen! xD
