@shibao @sun @zaitcev @a7 if someone complains tell them it's what shell scripting is doing all the time anyway :blobcatsmug:

@shibao @sun @zaitcev @a7 big brain move would be to just use whatever language you like and calling that from a wrapper shell script :P

_Homeschooled Students Outperform Public School Indoctrinated Students_

FTA: A variety of academic testing data actually shows that parents of public school students have much more to fear, as homeschooled students have outperformed public school students in key areas like math, reading, and social sciences.

Homeschooling may become more popular in recent years as the political climate in public schools becomes more toxic and academic standards at these schools continue to decline. Homeschooling may be a viable route to improve your child’s future academic success and to provide them with an environment with more emotional and social support. Parents who are concerned about factors like isolation should strongly consider joining forces with other like-minded members in their community.

@shibao @sun @a7 classic mech e should be the harder skillset to find so less competition, and probably less full of fake it till you make it people

@shibao @sun @a7 oh, if she's mech e it might be that she really is outcompeted by dime a dozen ML and python people who are just cheaper? i'd say it's relatively easy and cheap to find someone who sorta can do ML, python and C++ (on paper ;)

@a7 @shibao @sun competent in ML is questionable as skill at best if not on the edge of research, everything else is pretty much consumption of premade models using premade software. "$language" isn't really a selling point except for legacy maintenance. don't know about the guy in question though, maybe he's really got a unique skillset but it's too fringe in this area.

i agree that the area is full of incompetent people who are good at faking competence. most people i met love ultra complex framework systems and can't think without them.

Some weird shit going down. Cannot get to fsebugoutzone.org from two regular IPs. Cannot, in fact, get to anything that I have tried in the DC's address space. You can see this post, right? So it's definitely the case that the site is up. I can get here from elsewhere, though, and obviously some Tor exits can get here.

Fedilist reports "Failures since last success" under "Crawling Info", unless there have been no failures, in which case it just leaves that bit out, which it is doing here: http://demo.fedilist.com/instance/fsebugoutzone.org . So, the number of failures has stayed at 861 ("Contact: 12408 successful, 861 failed.") and I'm mentioning that here so I don't forget it.

It is probably not helpful to ask people that can't see fsebugoutzone.org to tel me, but

:ken: When in doubt, use brute force. :ken:

Easiest way to tell this is traceroute, from a handful of machines to a handful of other machines. Frantech, other hosts. The machines that *can't* get to it stop at ae1.mcs2.lax112.us.eth.zayo.com (64.125.28.237). The ones that *can* get to it...also go through Zayo. Weird. So maybe Zayo's not peering right with another backbone provider? Kind of unlikely: the hop right after 64.125.28.237 is 173.46.64.14.IPYX-128160-031-ZYO.zip.zayo.com (173.46.64.14). Also Zayo. That's weird.

Pings to where it stops, 64.125.28.237, those are really slow. That's the hop between Cogent and Zayo. So maybe the pipe between Cogent and Zayo has gone a wobbly one. I don't know.
