I am so fucking sick and tired of people complaining that modern society doesn't provide anything of leisure other than hyper-consumerism.
Bro, everywhere I go, whether it is a rural, suburban, or urban area there are festivals and other locally-held events taking place or are scheduled and many (if not most) of them are hosted on weekends so there is no excuse. Those are the perfect places to meet new people and bring culture to your life. Not everything has to be soulless. You're just way too afraid to get out of your comfort zone.

Baest will (not) be shutting down on November 8th.
Why? A few reasons.
1. This is getting expensive and time consuming to run.
2. God has other plans for me and trying to continue running all of this would hold me back.
3. I want to spend less time on the internet.
4. I'm a very different person and in a much different situation from when I started.
One of the main reasons I started running a fedi instance was I had a bunch of free time because I couldn't work.
I've had a great time and met lots of wonderful people.
Honestly, if it weren't for fedi I'm not sure where my life would be but probably somewhere very different and not as good. I know I wouldn't be able to give Cornbread a home.
I want to thank everyone for hanging in here with me all this time. I'm sorry I'm shutting it down. This isn't an easy decision to make and I do feel guilty about it.
Don't worry, I'm not leaving fedi and I really hope this doesn't cause any Baest users to leave fedi. I just have more important things I need to focus my time and money on. I'm at least going to make it through the election, though.
Thank you for letting me be a part of all of this for all of these years. I am extremely thankful.
Edit: it seems revolver will be ready before then so @p will migrate Baest to revolver so nothing will go away. Beast will just become fully decentralized. The West hasn't fallen after all.

@stux The people who praise replacing one gun death with 10 knife deaths by making guns illegal are the same people who never stood up to people doing evil who were capable and willing to kill you.
When you are the one people are trying to kill your opinion on guns changes real quick. I certainly never bothered owning a gun before then. Now I open-carry with a license.

i still think that the mis- and disinformation neologisms are themselves just false. information is information. these terms are just fancy new words for "doesn't fit the official narrative, no matter if true or false".
i know you are on the other isle on this, but take the mrna shots: posts which said that rather severe side effects were more common than officials admitted were called "misinformation". a while later the official numbers in germany did show one severe reaction in 10000 doses. i don't know the official term but that's certainly not "very rare". the "nonsevere" reactions were one in 2000, still much more than usual vaccines.
regarding "nazis" and censorship to prevent them: censorship is what the nazis (and every other authoritarian like communists) did as first thing when they came into power. if anything, censorship is a proof of things already being "nazi".
the view that most people are too stupid and are easily manipulated also is placing oneself above them, making democracy a farce. either people have complete agency, which is the only way democracy makes sense. or they don't, but then don't call it democracy, because it clearly isn't if people have to be controlled to vote for the "correct" choice.
