@empish so I boiled it, mashed it, added some celery - and I think the turnips are still overwhelming the flavor a bit.
Tried some bacon grease/sausage/salt/pepper on a small bit and it was good, but still need something to temper the turnips.
Wife suggested maybe butter, and the raclette cheese idea may also be good.
Will keep experimenting - I have several quarts of the original batch now ;)

@empish thanks, exactly what I did! In a big pot, waiting to be used!

Boost this toot if you're planning on sticking around Mastodon whether or not it becomes more popular than the birdsite.

is hard sometimes.
Hoping the crew can take down the KTOO Juneau antenna tomorrow and inspect and maybe dry it out. Thank goodness for a small backup.

Karen made this today! She is becoming such a great beader!
1/4 Cherokee, but her grandma didn't register & then the courthouse in OK burned down ;)
(OK, true, but couldn't resist tweaking the pretendians' silliness.)

Request to my gifted 'crazy cooks'. Came back from a month at camp with small potatoes that got too cold in the fridge - frozen, I think. Now soft, but not spoiled. Also returned to find turnips, parsnip, & possibly salvageable cabbage here.
Recipe tips? Have onions, garlic, etc

@MicheleV_AK As a newbie here I don't want to offend off the bat but - I think the entire gun conversation is flawed at its root. It would be far better, from a 2nd amendment point of view, to simply assume (nay, require?) that everyone has some kind of weapon, has been introduced to gun safety training in school (we were, growing up - a lot of schools had shooting ranges), and is aware of the dangers - just like driving a car, with graduated levels of training/certification for more capable/powerful weapons.
That should eliminate the political FUD around 'so and so wants to take our guns'. And as far as 'privacy', if it is assumed (required?) that people possess (note, I didn't say use) a weapon, then there is no real issue.
I find the situation in Switzerland very interesting - esp. the part where it says:
"The Swiss have strict rules for who can get a gun, and take firearm training very seriously."

I have no idea what response I might get here, but it does seem like a more thoughtful and measured group ;)

@MicheleV_AK seems pretty reasonable, yes?
I mean, even in KY years ago I had to show proof of completion of an approved firearms safety class just to get a hunting license.
I get some people might disagree but to me that seems consistent with 'a well regulated militia'

@AlaskaWx is there a good place to look at comparisons to Navajo? Growing up in New Mexico I listened to Navajo broadcasts early in the morning. Living in Alaska now, I find that I'm hearing very familiar sounds and patterns. Make me want to know more about migrations.

To the newcomers to Mastodon and the Fediverse:

When you ask to follow someone that doesn't accept followers automatically, please have your profile filled out and some posts in your feed by you. I'm not going to follow anyone that hasn't taken the time to get their feet wet and write some posts, so I can know what you're about.

@AndyLowry sorry to hear that, but, yes, you are spot on.
As parents of a young man who passed from ALL just before his 25th, we also understood that when we moved from Vermont to Alaska, we mostly stopped being 'those people whose kid died'. A strange dual identity. Much love and strength to you.

@pwinn @freemo I know it was/is a big lift. We newbies are trying to be good citizens - hope we folk are patient and can help where we can.

@theexplorographer@mindly.social +1 for Tusky (Android)

@mastodonmigration can server admins easily post Patreon or other ways to support their work? Not easily finding them.

@ptarnation maybe on a local/personal level this can be done?
e.g.
Points -
I know @x1
Personally, professionally, etc
I know people who know @x1
Etc.
Aggregate the confirmations based on your own levels of trust, higher points, greater trust.

Not gpg/pgp but similar.

Addresses the 'new' problem with $8/mo 'blue checkmarks' ?

It just takes a couple of minutes - with RCV you can extend your vote by ranking - and to prevent your vote from being counted for a candidate you don't support, don't rank them. You can rank as many or as few as you wish.

@ptarnation anything that can provide some simple measure of verification/non-repudiation would be great. Doesn't have to be gpg

I’m not one for making predictions about tomorrow, but here it goes:

At some point in the day, someone who has the luxury to post under their real name without fearing danger will announce that the cure to all things wrong with the world is to eliminate anonymity on Twitter.
