I thinkthat changes to the digital world will be coming about in rather short order, at least if I have anything to say about it, that is. Honestly, that's one of the most prominent reasons why I run server infrastructure at home. Sure, my open source org is an actual company, but even without the LLC behind the name, wouldn't matter all that much, considering even though I work in IT, as well day in and day out, i don't have control. At home, I've got all control in the universe.
@cambridgeport90 Isn't it crap to have to work in bureaucratic ms environment, while all the good stuff is at home? 😜
@hasmis I can see how you might feel that way, but I don't find the new Microsoft to be crap. Their attitudes have changed quite dramatically; look at everything they have that is open source. In fact, my core infrastructure has a lot of Microsoft based stuff in it, and that's by choice.
@cambridgeport90
OOO-kay. Open source and ms. My mind must be in the gutter-80's. 😀
@hasmis It used to be like that; there was a time when Microsoft hated the open source community. During the reigns of Gates and Ballmer, that is. Ballmer was insane anyways, though, i'm pretty sure. Nedella, on the other hand, I would shake his hand and say hello any day.
@cambridgeport90 It's funny, I'm retired and do the IT for a 86-ish old guy in a home. I got him (he's rich) a pixel book, and he didn't like it. Then he demanded to have exactly what he had before, and ordered his own hp pavilon. Now, I battle hp, ms, and google. They all want to suck up his data. Sad, and the big win10 update clobbered him. I was forced to enter dark world of ms to fix it. I was a big Unix person, and now run Linux. My kids all went ms. :(
@hasmis I think that all operating systems have merits, but then again, I'm less caring about what Microsoft does with my data, either; at least they are transparent about it, unlike some.
@hasmis I wonder why not?
@cambridgeport90 Okay. I use whalebird, and when you hit 'toot detail' it shows the thread. neato.
@hasmis I've heard of that. Will have to find it. I need a better client than either the web or the one I use on Windows. I still hate the fact that even in the web interface, links show up as broken up into two lines, unless you use Halcyon, that is.
@cambridgeport90 Ha, ha. I'm just used to open threads on g+ and old usenet. However, when looking at the local timeline, I can't detect it.
