@LWFlouisa Cheaper, in the long run when you don't have to pay a hosting company. I don't care that much for my ISP's terms of service. I'll break them in order to host at home until they physically shut me down.

@twdockery I have a single server for right now, though that's going to be changing here in the not too distant future. He's a PowerEdge T110, and he's attached to a 1U Ubiquiti USG Pro, and on top of her is a UniFi US-24. I also have two laptops, both Latitudes; Tam is a Latitude D630 I saved from the garbage, while Rand is my main Latitude E6540. Will be also getting a Dell OptiPlex 5050 desktop, as well, along with a Sangoma S500 VOIP phone ... so yeah, I've sort of got it going on.

@hasmis I think that all operating systems have merits, but then again, I'm less caring about what Microsoft does with my data, either; at least they are transparent about it, unlike some.

@LWFlouisa I'm a paid member, unfortunately. And here's why I wish the IndieWeb was more prominent; imagine the amount of responses he'd get had the article been written on his own blog, instead of using a third party service as a courier for it?

@hasmis It used to be like that; there was a time when Microsoft hated the open source community. During the reigns of Gates and Ballmer, that is. Ballmer was insane anyways, though, i'm pretty sure. Nedella, on the other hand, I would shake his hand and say hello any day.

@LWFlouisa I myself, I know what they mean, though I don't think it's necessarily the term I would have chosen had the article been written by me.

@cambridgeport90 I want to read it just to see what they mean by digital nutrition. Either English is weird, or the way people use English is weird.

@hasmis I can see how you might feel that way, but I don't find the new Microsoft to be crap. Their attitudes have changed quite dramatically; look at everything they have that is open source. In fact, my core infrastructure has a lot of Microsoft based stuff in it, and that's by choice.

I thinkthat changes to the digital world will be coming about in rather short order, at least if I have anything to say about it, that is. Honestly, that's one of the most prominent reasons why I run server infrastructure at home. Sure, my open source org is an actual company, but even without the LLC behind the name, wouldn't matter all that much, considering even though I work in IT, as well day in and day out, i don't have control. At home, I've got all control in the universe.

Decisions have been made easier. my personal site is going up on Wordpress for the time being. I think that for what it's worth; integration with the fediverse builtin via , integration with steem via Steempress, and so on. Will move to DNN when my development skills and time permits. Having community integration is a bit more important to me right now than what CMS I'm using. That way I can focus on bringing stormlighttech.org back to DNN. Yes, we'll lose the direct integration, but we can regain it via putting our Twitter presence for stormlighttech@mastodon.technology onto Twitter, the way this account is.
