Psychotherapist: "What are some things you like?"
Me: "I like sleeping."
Psychotherapist: "I meant while you're awake.
Me: "Oh, no. I don't like that at all."

I'm a 59 year old African American woman. I've desegregated a town, a school system and many other spaces. When I discuss racism in this nation, I'm not going to ameliorate my speech for the comfort of anyone. I don't exist to comfort others about the reality of what I was born into - what we all live in together. If that's a problem for you, I suggest you embark on some self-reflection to determine what your actual role is within this system.

I will never understand why people are so averse to diversity.

I like seeing trans people speaking to each other with idioms I don't get, cute girls speaking a language I can't recognize, or gay dudes priming and posing in random pics.

Seeing shit that is not for me makes me feel like I'm part of a much bigger world that still has space for me to learn and grow.

That's a big place of comfort for me. The bottomless nature of the human experience means we all have space to be fully who we are.

That's pretty cool.

As a blind individual, I have to say that #Caturday on #Mastodon is far far more enjoyable then at #Twitter, where the vast majority of cat photos are not described.

It is also been fascinating for me to hear descriptions written by those who sent the image, immediately followed by Apple image recognition’s attempts to describe the same image. Only rarely does that add anything to the ALT, & often directly contradicts it.

There is no auto magical solution to image description. It is something best done by a human, for only that human can explain the “why” of the image: the reason that image was chosen to speak so eloquently without words for those who can see it. ALT allows you to provide those words.

This is an accessible cycle parking spot.

It's designed so you can cycle in and cycle out out of it.

It has a lower bar to lock to as adapted cycles often have lower frames than standard two wheel bikes.

It's also clearly demarcated as being reserved for disabled cyclists. This means we don't have to negotiate using busy racks where other bikes might be obstacles.

This was implemented at the University of Manchester, UK.

My son is transgender, loud and proud about it.

He's absolutely one of my top two favorite people; not just because he's my child, but because he's funny, intelligent, warm, helpful, understanding, creative, and so many other positive things. That guy makes me proud to be his dad on the regular.

Losing the person he is because he didn't feel he could be open with me or with his mom would've gutted us, no chance of recovery.

Fight to be the sort of person a friend or a child can turn to when they want, need to share who they are. #TransgenderAwarenessWeek

Shout out to all the people who remember what it was like to be new at something. The ones who make you feel safe when you ask "dumb" questions 🥰

Dear conference organizers, it's 2022 and there's *no* excuse for an all-male speaker lineup. None. It's never been easier to find qualified non-male personell than now. For example, speakerinnen.org/de/topics?sea couldn't make it more convenient for you to find women experts. Thanks!

Don’t complain that you’re not “hearing from everyone” in your meetings if you’re not also constraining dominant talkers.

@erikld I, for one, think that would be awesome! 🧡

Young Vancouver Island marmots play-fighting in their natural habitat.

This is the only endemic species in British Columbia. This species is listed as endangered. There are less than 300 Vancouver Island marmot living in the mountains on Vancouver Island.

The older I get the more I think all of our differences are explained by either you have empathy for strangers, or you don't. Realizing that 8 billion people have as rich of an inner life as you is DISTURBING because you start to understand how much world suffering is unnecessary and avoidable.

Politics and Policy get layered on top of it, but fundamentally it feels that this is the root disagreement at the base of all modern ideological debate.

The extra labor one has to do as a Black person IS the problem.

Having to move to an instance where people understand by default IS the issue.

White people don’t have to find an instance where it’s okay to talk about their daily lives of being white.

Just realized I can’t find my own unlisted posts! So #DisabledBlackTalk will have to do until I find a solution…

In honor of discovering and , a picture I took of some club moss (I believe  running clubmoss, Lycopodium clavatum) a couple of weekends ago. I do believe there's some lichen in there as well!

I too think this is really a good decent server; if you check the local timeline, you will discover nice folks around. The editor is well designed, and this server actually allows you to integrate other federated tools, that's fantastic. I also found nice uptime and so on.
