Our land cloud, Gibbs, in his natural element on a walk at Silverwood Park.

Gibbs is a Great Pyrenees / Komondor cross. And a rescue. He'll be turning 2 soon. He weighs about 100 pounds, so he's on the small side for his breeds.

Barbara Jordan (1936-1996), a civil rights leader and attorney, became the first African American elected to the Texas senate in 1966, and the first woman and first African American elected to Congress from Texas in 1972. A tireless champion for minorities and the underrepresented. Although she never explicitly acknowledged her sexual orientation publicly, she was open about her life partner of nearly 30 years, Nancy Earl. #BlackFriday #LGBTQ

"In the 1980s, many people in the medical community treated chronic fatigue syndrome as a punchline. Some doctors dismissed patients’ debilitating symptoms, including crushing fatigue and crashes after exercise, as figments of their imaginations. Media outlets even dismissively nicknamed the condition “yuppie flu,” since many cases were reported among affluent white women."

Just a random #writing observation - I don’t actually care about moving the plot forward right now. I want allllll the details. And my writing improves exponentially every time I sink into the texture of a scene (thoughts, feelings, musings, sensations, etc.) instead of “getting to the next bit.”

Have *fun* writing. Return to a scene multiple times and give it richness. My readers have loved some of the slower, more “boring” scenes…because of all the depth that’s in them. #AmWriting #scifi

At the end of World War II the Nazis burned an Austrian castle full of masterpieces, including three paintings by Gustav Klimt entitled Philosophy, Medicine, and Jurisprudence. Until now, they were preserved for posterity only in black and white photographs.

Reconstructed in colour, they are now on display in an online gallery of 130 paintings, plus a virtual exhibition of 63 of the artist’s works, all brought together by Google Arts & Culture.

I visited a garden today that I’ve been going to for over 50 years, and thought it would always be accessible. But it’s been sold and may be developed. I took a ton of photos, as it could very well be the last time I see the place. Everything looked so beautiful to me, like I was seeing for the first time, instead of the last. For some reason, I burst into tears when I saw this tree trunk. Bittersweet.

@benjedwards
Isn't this just as likely to make "life-wrecking photos" obsolete as a concept? This photo of me with the cheerleaders and cocaine and spaniels is obviously just an AI fake, come ON!

#LitReview question - can anyone point me to work on the experience of participating in online communities. E.g., where people are, who they are with, what emotions they experience, etc.?

This is related to research on motivations but distinct, I think.

@ploum They're getting a huge amount of free labor into testing it and finding places where it goes wrong, at the very least.
