I will never ever answer Yes to an unsolicited pop up asking “are you enjoying <this app>” that forces me to click either Yes or No. It answers itself.

(I tap No extra extra hard if it asks if I “love” the app)

Random ranting

One of the annoyingest of the annoying notifications I get on my phone is saying "Time for something new!".

I mean, that's not for you to decide, moronic little app.

I should just turn off its ability to send notifications, clearly. I'll be that!

Ha, good rant.

Language is mysterious. The language instinct is universal to humankind. Yet no specific language is universal. Not even close. There are estimates that 30,000 languages have arisen and disappeared. We currently have 7,151. All naming systems for the human experience

This addresses inter alia the claim that every (finite?) string of numbers appears somewhere in Pi. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal

@lxo

This sounds like the claim that Pi is "normal" in a particular base. It's not actually known whether Pi is normal in any particular base, I don't think, but in some sense most real numbers are. It doesn't say that every other number is contained somewhere in pi, just that any finite string of digits is. So no irrational or repeating numbers required, if I have it right.

My one and only trip to the Isle Of Skye and I never actually hiked up The Storr..
A decision that still plagues me to this day.
A good excuse to go back though I suppose!

Tunnel of love. Ukraine. It is a botanical phenomenon - a green tunnel in a forest about 4 km long, created by thickets of trees and bushes that intertwined with each other and created a dense tunnel of an exact arched shape. An industrial train passes along this track three times a day.

You can learn AP US History, AP European History, AP World History but AP African American History is banned. Forbidden knowledge.

I vividly remember NOT signing up to take African American history when I was in high school some 20 years ago. I needed to score a scholarship to go to the schools I wanted-- and AP courses are just expected to get in. So I too AP Euro. Nearly everyone did. It was an OK course.

But that forbidden knowledge...

Today, the Chervonogorod Castle is a ruin with two towers near the city, which has long since disappeared. For many, they are similar to the fairy-tale "Two Towers" from Tolkien's saga "The Lord of the Rings". The castle is not protected, it is not registered as an architectural or historical monument. Neither conservation nor restoration work was carried out on the territory of the former fortress.
