I wrote an article about the history of Apple Daily, its rise as a media powerhouse in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and its downfall.

During nearly 26 years, Apple Daily and its founder Jimmy Lai were at the forefront of Hong Kong's struggle for democracy. Lai was a very controversial figure, and his career reflects many of the contradictions of our era.

I thought it was worth looking back and telling the story of this very unusual media outlet.

This little bird is a white-throated sparrow (Zonotrichia albicollis). They're a commonplace bird in North America, and they mostly do very normal little bird things, hopping around eating bugs and seeds. Oh, and they also have four distinct sexes. Here's how.
