For comparison, Kalief Browder spent 3 years in PRETRIAL DETENTION for allegedly stealing a god-damned backpack. Unfortunately, he was also abused and neglected to the point that he died before his trial.

The American justice system is aggressively, loudly, and unapologetically designed to favor white men and punish everyone else.

Here is a post I think is really good about a fan attempt to translate "Baba is You" into Chinese. The results look gorgeous (hanzi are square, and can be written potentially horizontally or vertically, so as a writing system it works BETTER than the Latin alphabet) but because many of the puzzles in Baba is You are literal wordplay hinging on specifics of English grammar it is a VERY hard localization. The post attempts to describe what does and doesn't work.

There's a tiktok I think about all the time. It starts with a lady responding to that comment that asks "I am amab, but discovered through therapy I identify as a woman. I am 49. Is it too late?" And the woman responds "of course it's not too late!"

Then the woman who asked the question stitches the video. It's been a year since she asked, and it's obvious that she's been living as a woman for at least part of that year. And she says that the initial response of "of course not" was the answer she expected, but hearing it said out loud by someone else gave her the push she needed to move forward. And then she encourages others that it's not too late for them either. It's such a beautiful moment.

I think a lot of us struggle with thinking it's too late. I'm 20 years younger than her, and I thought that. My sister is almost 10 years younger than me, and she thought that. And I think it comes from a place where we know what we should've been, and any time taken away from that feels too late. But seeing men and women who have transitioned at whatever point they needed to, always feels like a miracle because transition is a miracle. And miracles are a natural state of being, and when one does not occur something has gone wrong.
