If you find your Home timeline is a little too quiet and wonder how to discover cool people to follow, there are many ways to do this:

HOW TO ❓

1. Add people you already know the handle of using the “Search” function. Make sure you write their full handle with the 2 at signs. The first (a) with their handle AND the second (a) with their instance name, all without space 🔍​

2. Browse your “Local” timeline to see toots (posts) from people on the same instance (server) as you. Follow the ones you like! 🏠​

3. Browse your “Federated” timeline to see toots from people on the same instance as you and the people they follow. Follow the ones you like! 🏘️​

4. Type a topic you like in the “Search” function, for example type “StarTrek”, click on the “Hashtags” tab on desktop, then click on a listed hashtag. Follow people tooting about your interests! If you click on the upper right “+” button, you can also “Follow hashtag”! 🖖

5. Add “/explore” after the name of an instance you like to see an overview of what’s happening there. For example, infosec.exchange/explore 🌏​

6. Look whose toots your friends are boosting and click on these profiles ​

7. Follow many people you like and watch your “Home” timeline becoming alive! Follow people active at different times of the day for a continuous flow of cool toots! Use “Lists” and “Slow mode” if your “Home” timeline gets too overwhelming with joy ​

Feels like I’m boosting on here way more than I used to retweet, and not writing many original toots. But the quality of the feeds and the trends here is so much better than it was in the Bad Place, I’m constantly seeing stuff from my follows that is actually interesting and funny.

Am I boosting too much?

After a long slew of odd coincidences, and finally being stared down by a pair of ravens while holiday music blared down the street, I give up; I understand when someone's sending a message.

So I am proud to announce a special project for the holidays, Óðinna Álfar (Odin's Elves)! We are a small set of antifascist mystics, pagans, punk philosophers, and witches inspired by Food Not Bombs to create a decentralized gifting network for the Yule season.

How to participate? Simply do an act of good will for those in need between now and 21 December, tell us about it in a post with the hashtag #odinnaalfar, and incorporate the attached symbol in the post in some way. These acts can range from setting up a food drive, handing out warm clothes to houseless folks, or going full Santa Claus and dropping off gifts to kids who could use 'em.
