This article is *excellent*. On its face it’s about #NYC #rent, but the larger story it tells is amazing — part ‘prosumer’-level data-science dive, part Alice in Wonderland. What the author finds is world of data that isn’t: cooked books, liars and shills, manipulated indicators, and a Bullshit-as-a-Service ( #BSaaS ) outfit that gives the landlord industry plausible deniability in the form of an “algorithm” to extort jaw-dropping amounts from renters across the US and around the world. Things like this make clear how much of the debate about #AI and #LLM is plain-old techno-fetishism or, as they say, *affirmative critique* — ‘lite’ analyses that end up endorsing what they supposedly question. It really doesn’t matter *how* the ‘data’ is generated — an AI, an intern putzing around with Excel, an army of typing monkeys. What matters is the power of an industry to create a Matrix-like illusion to rob the masses blind.

My daughter told me today she no longer tidies her room, instead she 'resets' it to tidy each Sunday for the week ahead . She said mentally this helps because tidy sounds such a chore while reset doesn't, and the thought that there's a weekly reset means she doesn't feel bad if the room gets messy in the week, because she'll reset on Sunday!
