Because, unfortunately, their votes have more power in the Senate and Electoral College than most other people's!

Excellent punches!

"AI companies are implicitly betting that their customers will buy AI for highly consequential automation, fire workers, and cause physical, mental and economic harm to their own customers as a result, somehow escaping liability for these harms." 💢

I'll settle for desecrating his corpse.

What do you think of Dead Kissingers as band name, and what kind band would it be?

Trump is taking aim at Taylor Swift

Let’s break it down:

TayTay:
A billionaire with a mobile economic booster on wheels
12 Grammys
Time’s person of the year
Prompted tens of thousands of young voters to register

Trump:
Lost money owning *casinos*
Defrauded students with “university”
Ran an airline into the ground
Faces 91 charges including trying to overturn a free and fair election
Sold our nation’s highest secrets (possibly lost money on it)
Stole from charity

been thinking about my approach to saying critical things about open source projects

I'm always trying to balance 2 things:

1. I want other users to know that if they're struggling, it's not because they're dumb. There are real problems.
2. I don't want to downplay the work people are doing to make it better.

this has been coming up a lot with Nix, which I find useful but incredibly difficult to use

(no advice please, but curious to hear what your personal approach to this is)

A couple people mistakenly thought I was a bot last week, so here's a reminder that I am indeed human.

Today is my girlfriend's sister's birthday, who also happens to be the artist for our Otterly Human comics. I am contractually obligated to hold her like this in every picture we take together.

We are deep into the German winter. The sun is up for less than 8 hours during the day. Nevertheless we export electricity to Europe thanks to renewable wind energy.

Be aware: we export because we produce cheaper than the coal/gas/nuclear plants in other countries.

If not for the fuckup in Bavaria (the right wing state government there prevents the installation of wind turbine), we would export even more.

Earlier this year, I replaced my ailing computer w/ one that should last a while and keep me streaming, podcasting, #writing.

Computers cost money, though, and I'm semi-broke. If you've got a buck or two to spare, consider donating to my Ko-Fi page! :D

Hiking Avalanche Lake Glacier National Park

The Trail of the Cedars is a hiking trail accessible from Going-to-the-Sun Road. The trail is short an accessible for all, the .60-mile path is paved and has a raised boardwalk in some sections. Some of the cedars visible are over 80 feet tall.

End of an Era.

I went out and bought this, the Dec. 2023 issue of National Geographic. It's the last issue of this venerable institution that will appear on newsstands. 🧵

I wonder... if you could see that and think... hmmm I should probably do that when I'm at the crowded mall this week?

It's nearly Public Domain Day (my favorite holiday, since the US started celebrating it again a few years back) and I'm eagerly and excitedly collecting materials which will enter the public domain in 2024 to repackage, share, remix, and otherwise defile.

There's so *good* stuff coming to the US, and it will be transformed in to even better stuff.

But! this Public Domain Day is also a time for sadness (small thread)

Look, what I'm saying is that our best chance for making the world a better place is to organize: yewtu.be/watch?v=VzvH5UZVQU8

Copyright law is a tiny example of a way that the intent of the law has been subverted to serve corporate interests. Major copyright reform, reducing terms to under 50 years from publication, would strike a huge blow to many of the corporations that actively campaign against what is best for us.

All of these struggles are one struggle. The struggle of the rights of People against the rights of corporations.

We must fight.
