When Dr. Tedros from WHO announced the end of the COVID emergency but said that someone was still dying every 3 minutes from the virus, people (around me at least) seemed to think that statistic must be because of non-industrialized countries with poor medical infrastructure, etc. and surely COVID isn’t still that deadly in the US.

Based on our death toll from December 29, 2002 to May 3, 2023, someone in the US dies of COVID every 4 minutes.

It’s still that bad and we have to act like it.

It's like environmental regulations to prevent creating godzilla.What he's actually trying to do is invent a set of rules that only he can win, and establish that he can't be liable for the real harm he does. AI has only ever been a liability laundering machine, and he wants to enshrine that function in law.

He's also really desperate not to be regulated by the FTC, because their charter is to prevent and remedy actual harm to actual people.

It turns out that virtually ALL of the sham "science" behind the anti-trans movement can be traced directly back to a very small number of purely ideologically driven "doctors" citing one another over and over again to try to give the impression that standard evidence based trans healthcare is controversial.

It's basically the scientific equivalent of writing a blog with nothing more than your own opinions, your friend writes an article citing your blog, another friend writes an article citing both of you, and then showing up in front of public health boards saying "see, here's 3 articles showing how I'm right!"

In any normal and reasonable political environment, these quacks would be laughed out of the room with such flimsy "evidence". Yet because the far right has captured statehouses across the country, they're laundering this junk science into "real" science.
