Hello. I’ve been a bit sporadic on here recently. Apologies. Posting the Calanais Standing Stones for today’s #PhotoOfTheDay We’ve visited a number of times and are always in awe. Go if you get the chance. They’re older than Stonehenge and you can still touch them.. #Scotland #ScottishHighlandsAndIslands #history #StandingStones #calanais

#Introduction toot for the two cats that we serve!

Both are sisters that we adopted 12 years ago when they were 1 year old. They’re both #calico but it’s more obvious in Pict.

Celt had pneumonia before she was rescued and so only half of one lung works. last year we thought we’d lose her and had her on an oxygen machine for a long time but she’s still with us! Hobbies: sleeping and expensive food.

Pict is large, loud and fluffy. Hobbies: playing and ALL food.

I've mentioned this issue before, but you really have to be careful when buying #vinyl from Amazon. E.g., on 1st glance of this photo, it looks like an official Blue Note album is available for EUR 24.37. But it's not. You're redirected to a version by a 'Gray Label' (a company that exploits copyright loopholes). This label has *not* been granted a licence from Blue Note; it didn't have access to master tapes. The vinyl was cheaply created by ripping an official LP, CD or even MP3 files.

I'm confused when devs claim that you can't experiment with software on the fediverse. I have spent the last 5 years of my life building experimental software on the fediverse, and people have been very supportive!

There is a MASSIVE design space for weird ideas that are not just dressed-up surveillance capitalism, but so many devs come here saying "I will try out some dressed-up surveillance capitalism" and then act like their genius design thinking is being stymied when people say "fuck off"

#Introduction: I'm a New Yorker who used to practice #law, play #oboe in orchestras, & somehow sell my #humor columns. Way back when, I won a prize named after an idol of mine: the "Robert Benchley Society Humor Award."

These days, I keep my brain alive by writing #limericks, #haiku, & #political #satire. (#Wordle "helps" too.) And I host & run a monthly international #Limerick-Off #contest at my website MadKane.com.

I live in Bayside, Queens, New York with my humor-inspiring husband Mark.

hey #fediverse

so I’ve been thinking about this for a long time

at some point yr humble fediverse servant is going to get called into a meeting to justify how I am spending my time over here

& I suspect saying “listen this is the most fun I’ve had on social media since early Tumblr” is not the move

This is all to say: if you want local #news here, follow us 😁.

If we get this working I think other news orgs. will follow.

So I say yet again: whatever it is you're advocating or fighting for, it is almost certain that other people fighting for the same things a different way are NOT your main obstacle. They just seem salient to you because of their proximity in ideological space.

An tiny excerpt from a really nice Facebook post shared by photographer Susannah Warner today.

“It is dark. I am up before the sun, most people and the birds. A faint pink glow in the east hastens my breathing and my steps and although there is no quick way to prepare for 2 degrees, I try.

This show never gets old for me and I am its biggest fan.” - photographer Susannah Warner,
at Moxie Pond, Maine, 25 January, 2023.

@jackmjenkins Hi Jack, welcome aboard. I'm Dave, or Puffin should you prefer. I must say a big thank you to @nottrobin for including me in such august company.

Jack, I feel totally confident saying you'll have a great time here. The folk are amazing. Friendly, knowledgeable, intelligent, but modest with it & both fun & funny

Other than use #Introduction as a starting point, I'd advise posting regularly. Let ppl know what you think, what's fun, what's beautiful. We'll defo respond . Enjoy. Dave
