The single best thing written on endemicity & #COVID is by @ariskatzourakis from last January.
"Thinking that endemicity is both mild and inevitable is more than wrong, it is dangerous: it sets humanity up for many more years of disease, including unpredictable waves of outbreaks. It is more productive to consider how bad things could get if we keep giving the virus opportunities to outwit us. Then we might do more to ensure that this does not happen."
@epidemiology
@jhonygutierrez lol, that's usually what happens 😂
Boring defensive game ending in a draw
@macroliter deactivated mine this Im not supporting that platform of misinformation, bullying, and hate. Byeeee bird. Hello fuzzy elephant.
@trafficblogger I know, I always think that and then we get a boring match ending in a draw 😂
Fingers crossed!
@trafficblogger definitely - Iran is a good team and they made that first half look easy. As a Brit living in the USA I am particularly excited to see Friday's game. 😁🇬🇧🇺🇲
That second goal by Saka - omg!! Beautiful. Then the third was just a stunning pass by Kane. England looking really good...come on, lads! #England #EnglandIran #IranEngland #WorldCup #WorldCup2022
Meet Eugen Rotchko (@Gargron), founder of @Mastodon, who just got a profile in TIME magazine. I encourage you to really read the entire excellent interview, bc not only will you learn more about the ethos behind Mastodon, but you can also hear what it’s like for an intelligent human being to talk about social media.
“Thousands Have Joined Mastodon Since Twitter Changed Hands. Its Founder Has a Vision for Democratizing Social Media.”
Today on Trans Day of Remembrance we mourn the lives of trans people lost to violence. The victims in the US in 2022, those identified by the Human Rights Campaign, were disproportionately Black, disproportionately women. Most were killed with firearms.
We also mourn the lives of victims murdered last night at a queer nightclub in Colorado Springs.
Honor these lives. Fight transphobia and racism and homophobia. Control our gun violence epidemic. Protect and celebrate the lives of queer folks!
@Drosmel omg yes!!! I love that book SO much. I think it's my favorite of all the Discworld books and I believe I have read all of them. The multi-part film adaptation is really good, too. We watch it every Christmas.
@BE I hope so, too....I've spent the last ten years working with them to coach them for this day. I just hope I get a shout-out at the awards ceremony! 🪑🪑
Folks I would like to announce the big screen debut of my lawn chairs. We are hopeful that The Academy was watching. Our chairs are the ones circled in teal, in which there are two people sitting. Therefore, we think "Best Supporting Actors" seems fair. 😉😁
A little background - this is my street, and they filmed scenes from the movie #Spirited here last fall. It was awesome to watch them film and we got to (briefly) meet some of the actors including Will Ferrell. They also, as you can see, borrowed our lawn chairs 😁😂
@dentalflossbay omg that's bonkers 😳😂
That's much worse than all of the people at our site complaining they didn't have any sharpies.
Additionally I was told I was going to get a card at the end onto which they deposit the payment, but they never gave me anything. I don't care particularly as I wasn't doing it for that reason but still. Where's my card?
@dentalflossbay the nurse literally said to me "we don't want any babies with three heads or anything!"
I stifled the urge to say "well, not unless they have superpowers as well." 🙄
@dentalflossbay oh that's good to know! Yeah they seemed a bit confused. I was later told I could request to know only AFTER the product came to market, if it ever did...🤷♀️
@dentalflossbay I asked "Do we find out at the end which group we were in?" - "No".
"Well, what about if the product comes to market, I would definitely want to know then, because if I don't need it again I won't get it." - "umm...no one has ever asked that, I really am not sure but I would guess that...ummm?"
Seriously, no one ever asked that??
@dentalflossbay ha, oh noooo...! Yeah I had some awkward convos about contraception despite the fact that I have done IVF 3x and absolutely definitely can't have (another) kid I still had to agree to use contraceptives. Also the lady doing mine was reading the list of outdoor hobbies (NGL picnicking made me laugh) and animals and said "yeah this was written by English people so it's really bad". And kept repeatedly complaining about the silly English things.
I'm English 😂
