@barefootstache @tietsche that’s probably my best solution. I’m kind of allergic to compartmentalization but I need to get over myself, I guess. Lol

@obi thanks for that. This instance has felt like the best fit for me so far.

@tonic oh wow that’s awful. It’s so confusing at first - and a lot of people, articles, and sites recommend multiple accounts! I’m glad you stuck around after such an awful ‘welcome’.

@securecompliance using hashtags in addition to CW is a great idea. I’m still not used to thinking about hashtags in a mastodon kind of way.

I feel like I need to find an on Mastodon where folks in my local timeline would generally want to see most/all of my posts. But I feel like the folks on the science/astronomy/STEM instance aren’t going to want to see a lot of leftist/socialist/anti-capitalism stuff and vice versa. And then there’s the writing and poetry and photography and…etc.

The general instances seem so…big and don’t have that concentration of specialized posting I enjoy in the local feed. I know ppl say that what instance you’re on doesn’t matter that much, but I don’t want to feel like I’m putting out a bunch of stuff that others on my instance think is spammy. Is my Twitter brain viewing this wrong? Do I just pick an instance and half my posts?

I waited and waited until the unknown woman was in the right spot; I needed her as scale for you to see the size of the chevron folds.

Been there three times, always in awe.

On a clear night in Kinlochleven in November, the Milky Way is visible down the loch. This shot took several attempts as the high road to the village runs to the left of this image. A 30 second exposure meant it took a bit of good timing to avoid light trails from the few cars which did venture down that night. This image was taken next to the slipway area in Kinlochleven.

Tomorrow will be the last day we see the Sun until February. Well we’ll likely not see it as it is forecast to be overcast. People image we have one long night, but that’s not true. We have a varying amount of twilight as the Sun skims below the horizon.

Why doesn’t he understand that I just want to stay home and hug on him all the time?

I am not a fan of winter, but man, oh man, do I love the season’s night sky. Auriga, Taurus, Mars, the Pleiades, and Orion (through the trees). #AstronomyMastodon #astronomy

Y'all making #SauropodSaturday a thing? Here's the skeleton formerly known as Apatosaurus throughout the 20th century. Somebody please give him a name soon?

So geo-types had a number of weekly hashtags going over the years on the bird site:

#MineralMonday
#VolcanoMonday
#TectonicTuesday
#WaterfallWednesday
#ThinSectionThursday
#FridayFold
#FlumeFriday
#FossilFriday

@annejefferson and I also had #ScenicSaturday on the blog for a while.

Do we have an appetite for any of these here? Which ones have I forgotten?

For , a wee bowl of peridot (olivine) I dug out of the world-class deposits on San Carlos Apache land east of Phoenix, AZ. We were invited and accompanied to the mining/claim site by a tribal member with tribal permission, which we were told is pretty rare. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, a great honor, and an incredible day.

I did not share the previous @APoD because I did not like them, but this #picture of the #WizardNebula is really nice. I am a big fan of the #orange colour, so this #astrophotography speaks to me.
