Wow. The Johns Hopkins #Coronavirus Resource Center, which provided the global #COVID19 map, is shutting down.
You could have made $49 million per year since Jesus was born and still not make the profits Pfizer did last year.

Pfizer made a record $100 billion in 2022, almost $57 billion of which was from its #COVID-19 vaccine and Paxlovid.
Yet they still want to charge people $130 per dose, and refuse to share vaccines and treatments with the world.
Inventions you didn’t know black women invented. Well now you know. Part One. #blackhistorymonth 2023.
This is a damn shame.
They had to remove two shows - both involving drag performers - from the line-up of a major winter festival in Calgary due to threats of hate and harassment. The protesters at local drag events include followers of Artur Pawlowski, a notorious anti-queer "pastor" with a long history of terrorizing 2SLGBTQ+ people.
Oh, and Pawlowski is a friend of Premier Danielle Smith. She ran her leadership campaign on a promise to grant him amnesty.

Looking for a #rabbit to adopt.
Is there anyone, or does anyone know of any people or #AnimalRescues that have any older #rabbits that might need #adopting / #rehoming?
We're looking for an older rabbit (5yrs+) to bond with our (almost 7yr old) female rabbit.
We're based in #Nottingham UK but are willing to travel to some extent.
Please help & share.
@hswapnil @mike_johansen @MGKatz036 I think this is a big problem.
I look at dialysis patients and ask if they would do better with a transplant or without and, not surprisingly, nearly all of my patients would be better off with a kidney transplant.
The transplant team looks at dialysis patients and says which of these people would do best with a transplant, and the answer is a more healthy, wealthy, and white cohort.
@mike_johansen @Kidney_boy @MGKatz036 if you have a metric of post transplant ‘success’ percentage you can do very well by only transplant the ‘best quality’ kidneys (with high discard rates) into the ‘fittest’ transplant recipients (topic of today’s discussion)
#GoodhartsLaw strikes again
@mike_johansen @Kidney_boy @MGKatz036 and many OPOs are downright corrupt
Or this podcast https://freakonomics.com/podcast/why-do-so-many-donated-kidneys-end-up-in-the-trash/ (yeah it is Freak, but Sumit Mohan from Columbia has done excellent work here)
@mike_johansen @Kidney_boy @MGKatz036 as you can see it’s so painful to navigate - and different centres/OPOs have different criteria - that dialysis patients need all the help they can get. A case worker, social worker, a vocal/smart family member, a nephrologist champion
@hswapnil I remember thinking this after reading this RCT of revascularization before major vascular surgery having no effect on outcomes (besides delaying the surgery). https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15625331/
AWESOME.
I noticed @MoriartyLab has just recently arrived on Mastodon!
Welcome!
Her work is IMO the Last Credible Source of Canadian quantitative #COVID #risk analysis.
If there is another or better source for Canadian analysis (other than Our World In Data), I don't know it.
She is co-lead of the #COVID19 Resources Canada web site.
Here's the hazard page area I spend so much time staring at:
https://covid19resources.ca/covid-hazard-index/
And the excess mortality tracker: https://covid19resources.ca/public/excess-mortality-tracker/
Canadian Excess Mortality Tracker with today's StatsCan numbers is now live.
Total estimated drug/heat wave-adjusted excess mortality epidemic up to Dec 3/22, Canada: 71,405
Omicron period: 28,850, with a LOT of reporting outstanding
Tracker link: https://covid19resources.ca/public/excess-mortality-tracker/
@MoriartyLab welcome! Great to see you here!
And @battlingbeaver tells me I should have introduced myself before I just jump in and start posting.
Sorry! I'm Tara. I'm an infectious diseases researcher and Associate Prof at the University of Toronto, and I'm the lead of COVID-19 Resources Canada.
We do the Canadian COVID Forecast, Canadian COVID data reporting, the Canadian Excess Mortality Tracker, and of course, COVID Conversation Zoom sessions supported by me and other volunteer scientists.
It's great to be here at last!
