The notice of motion to #BringBackMasks was sent to @OCDSB@twitter.com trustees today. Meeting to discuss early next week and date to implement TBD. Heartbreaking that while we debate children are at risk. Also sad that it is left up to us to act. This is about health and safety. #WeNotMe
Good grief. To those who say masks “caused” the current crisis, peddling silly ideas about “immunity debt,” epidemiology colleagues remind us that Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Sweden have RSV surges, too, after no masking. Children are waiting for us to act. #BringBackMasks #WeNotMe
It’s becoming clear to me how much I depended on Twitter to make me aware of changes in the medical literature, and how hopelessly disrupted that is
I really don’t want to go back to eToC
For example, I missed Semler / Vanderbilt’s oxygen target trial
I'm writing a short article on getting started with Mastodon for Computers in Libraries and have found @nikodemus guide invaluable. You might too. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1D9gfeKg_-hlsU66R-dLEvUeyMsqEfyIx2pnfUeX0t_E/edit?usp=sharing
The #NephJC chat tonight on #EMPAKIDNEY will still occur on the bird site as most of #Nephrology peeps are still over there
We are hosting a Spaces conversation at 10 pm Eastern if someone’s interested in talking #TwitterMigration
@Elvirabinamaggio1970 can you remember where you found it? Wondering if I can use it to illustrate an article
@Elvirabinamaggio1970 is there a source for this. Wonderful
Do your urban streets have enough street trees? Only if your design choices prioritize them! Touring #Vancouver projects with a client who’s the chief planner for another city, he marvelled at the amount of trees & landscaping everywhere in our downtown — this Yaletown street has 4 rows of #trees on just one side of the street! Yard trees, double row of sidewalk street trees, then bike-lane buffer trees. Lot of #density there, so don’t tell me you have to choose between density OR green! #cities
Saying "we can't mask anymore, because at some point we have to get back to normal" is racist. Asian countries have been masking for years. What is normal is taking collective action in order to protect others, especially those most vulnerable. #BringBackMasks

Don’t let politicians tell you there isn’t public support to #BringBackMasks. There is. What we lack is a government willing to lead, to truly take care of infants and children (and seniors, people with disabilities, essential workers, educators, healthcare workers). #WeNotMe
@jordy_bc @cmclase @LaurieTomlinson since I am on a roll 😎
What about flozins?
Yes you can see euglycemic DKA in a small number, but
- EMPULSE shows benefit starting with acute decompensated HF https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-021-01659-1
- DARE showed no harm starting DAPA in peeps hospitalized with COVID
It’s not stop flozins for all when sick - we need nuanced guidance🤔
@load_dependent @LaurieTomlinson @jordy_bc @hswapnil
Maybe the rule is: stop #flozins when fasting. Any info on 12-18h fasts as in Ramadan or intermittent fasting?
@cmclase @LaurieTomlinson @jordy_bc @hswapnil This is the way. The question is not how early benefit accrues from SGLT2i (or RASi) but when it is safe to start. I’ m a critical care #flozinator😅
@LaurieTomlinson @jordy_bc @cmclase @mike_johansen
Just like AKI and RASi, I agree euglycemic DKA is a real thing
But stopping all meds on admission (or if sick) seems too broad a stroke?
@yaneerbaryam
In fact, the same thing is happening in the southern hem. where we are in spring.
This graph is the last 10 years of resp. viruses infection rate, and we've never had a spike this time of the year. It's not seasonal.
