Sheep River Falls in #Kananaskis, #Alberta.

A great place to bike to in early winter when the seasonal highway is closed to cars.

#WaterfallWednesday

Just joined up, so here's a brief introduction!

An editor by profession, I specialize in fantasy, sci-fi & romance. I recently woke up at 3am with an idea, & thus Illaeria was born! I haven't written since college, so it's a novel experience.

I've been worldbuilding mostly, but I've got 2500 words down so far, and I'm excited to keep going!

I live in AL w/my husband & two cats. In my spare time I enjoy playing the piano, singing, playing JRPGs, Tabletop gaming, and (of course) reading.

If you've been following me for a while you'll know that I bang on and on and on about hepa filters.

Turns out the world's richest and most influential use them.

Also, I suspect, improved ventilation.

What do you spot in this picture?

There are two things that leap out.

Shows how big the lie is when govts say #COVID19 isn't a threat anymore.
Mandatory PCR tests, HEPAs, wearing winter coats indoors (because windows/doors/ventilation bringing cool, fresh air in) for WEF.
What is required for WEF is required for everyone/event.

Via Dr.Kashif Pirzada:

“The world's elite at the Davos forum are enjoying every possible protection from Covid, including PCR testing, [HEPA] air filtration, UVGI light.

Why isn't this being offered to everyone else?

Every school, every workplace should have the same protections as the rich and powerful.”

‘The real turning point of this pandemic may not be the lifting of #Covid zero in China, nor Kraken in NYC, but rather Davos 2023:
The world has just realized that the rich and powerful protect themselves from #COVID19 by improving the quality of their indoor air’

Back in November I walked out of a dental appointment due to insufficient air safety measures. They called today to let me know more robust measures are now in place, and I'm not the only one who expressed these concerns. Push back where you can. Cleaner air is possible. Safer, more accessible spaces are possible.

A new study shows 87% still pass a fit test when they put a surgical over their 3M Aura N95.

13% did not, illustrating the importance of fit testing your respirator exactly as you will be wearing it.

That's my take on the study. Theirs is:

"Generic guidance on the use of N95 FFRs should consider the potential risk of increased failure when they are worn with an overlying face mask"

I requested respirator test data from NIOSH through the Freedom of Information Act. NIOSH censored it.

NIOSH wants you to think all approved respirators are the same. They are not. Breathability and filtration levels vary significantly, especially N95s.

Alright, I'm not new to Mastodon, but a new #introduction post probably doesn't hurt.

Hey #Mastodon,

If you like some content, please boost it instead of just favoriting it. Favoriting a post does nothing except give the author a dopamine hit that gets addictive. Boosting makes content much more meaningful by sharing it with a wider audience. To me, that matters much more than how many internet points I get.

Serenity.
Black and white photography emphasizes silence, loneliness, depth.
There is nothing superfluous here.

“Someone with a 1-hr car commute needs to earn 40% more to be as happy as someone with a short walk to work. On the other hand, if someone shifts from a long commute to a walk, their happiness increases as much as if they’d fallen in love.” #CityMakingMath

Higher risk people aren't asking for everyone to be locked down forever. They are asking people to take precautions so higher risk people aren't locked down forever.

"...for profit surgery providers will almost certainly compete for staff, such as nurses, currently employed in hospital operating rooms. These nurses are required to be available on occasional nights and weekends, to look after patients needing emergency surgery."

So...1 in 24 Canadians has Covid, XBB1.5 (kraken) variant is projected to be at 22% in Ontario by the end of the week, people are still dying of Covid (279 in Canada in the first week of January), and though voluntary mask wearing is low, 69% of Canadians support mask mandates if necessary.

Public health in many regions recommends or strongly recommends mask wearing.

But no mask mandates?
Not even in education and the workplace?
Nothing?

Mandates would make it so much easier for the caring majority to normalize wearing a mask again. Many people understandably don't want to unless it is clearly necessary. are necessary to get mask wearing in public up to >80%, which IHME estimates would halve deaths from covid with a month.

In the absence of clear direction from public health, and protect yourself and those around you as best you can.

#Introduction (I guess).

Old.

40 years in #IT, from #soldering #components onto #breadboards to #managing #multi-national #systems. Was fun, then it got boring.

20 years (started late) as a #volunteer #firefighter, from newbie to Group Officer and #educator of #firefighters and the public. Loved it!

15 years of working #sound and #lights for the #stage, from #musicals to #groups. Loved that, too.

#Pyrrhonist - I’m an #unbeliever. In anything. I only trust #sources that have #evidence.

It doesn’t need to be said, but I’m consistently impressed by the level of discourse here on #Mastodon. Thank you all for being thoughtful, kind, and engaged in your posts and your replies. I’m learning so much from all of you. The #Fediverse rules ❤️
