This is an excellent, clear, explanation about making PDF documents accessible. The example is a resume. But the principles here are applicable to any PDF.

You've probably heard about the Ohio train derailment and fire by now.

My son was one of the firefighters called in. He spent close to seven hours on scene before even they had to evacuate by EPA order. Vinyl chloride stinks to high heaven, omg. His gear and personal vehicle reek something awful.

He's home and safe but on call to return. They had to abandon the tanker truck in the hot zone because it froze up and had engine trouble. He took the pic below as they left her in place by the tracks. They're hoping the truck isn't a total loss as it's our little town's only tanker.🤞 Everyone is exceptionally grateful there was only property loss though.

As first scenes go, my boy got a doozy, wow.

This supplemental fig from EMPA-KIDNEY is particularly useful to all of us in the US who have to deal with insurance companies : #flozin (SGLT2i) may work even if not on RAS therapy. Caveat emptor applies (85% of participants were on RASi subgroup analysis etc)

Young tawny frogmouths being all bothered by the noisy ravens and kookaburras today. Rare to see them with their eyes open during the day. #birds #birdphotography #naturephotography

January was my first month writing regularly - and this was one of the pieces that I'm most proud of. As a longtime Whovian, I couldn't help but relate my experiences fighting chronic illness to the Doctor's struggle in 'Heaven Sent'. Super dramatic of me I know 😅
But the allegory of it has been in my head for so long, I figured I just had to write about it!

Hi all, thanks for having me, I owe you an #introduction! My name is Barbara, I am a journalist/literature graduate turned #scicomm professional turned scicomm #freelancer. I am constantly amazed by everything #particlephysics and hope to find a new home here. 🏡There may be some ecology content, the odd #sourdough toot and occasional dog posts. I toot in EN and DE and will now go in search of a new community and learn the rules. Also: #wittertainment, #space, #darkmatter #wordplay #linguistics

#introduction I'm a retired professor of #medieval #literature. In retirement, I've been writing medieval mystery ebooks: the Matthew Cordwainer series and the Gavin Rownt series, available on Amazon

I published a scoping review recently with my supervisor looking at theory-based messaging campaigns targeting COVID vaccine hesitancy, and we found that only one campaign targeted misinformation as a modifiable determinant of vaccine hesitancy, which is … pretty astounding, given how much we talk about the problem of vaccine misinformation and say we want to mitigate the associated harms — like vaccine hesistancy.

I was a near-daily #writer through my mid 20s, but I slowly let those skills atrophy.

I'd like to start #writing for fun again and/or something worthy of the #substack account I haven't been using.

Hello, everyone. I guess it's time for an #introduction. I'm a #biostatistician with a PhD in psychology. I've spent most of my career working in #Alzheimer disease research, with brief detours into medical education and clinical trials data monitoring.

It's been a few years since I've had a world-facing social media account with a professional focus. I thought this transition might be a nice time to try again.

Do you work in tech? Do you ever wonder what it would be like to organize your workplace?

I am always happy to talk to people - friends, acquaintances, strangers - about what's involved in worker organizing. Also happy to connect people to friends who have organized their workplaces or who work as organizers at unions.

Not everyone with these skills and connections can afford to be so vocal, but I can! I'm self-employed and my boss (me) is super pro union. ;)

So hit me up if you're curious.

Hi new followers, if you’re looking for dry “professional” content, I’m going to disappoint.

Generally, I am grumpy about bigotries and structural harm, words meaning things, and things that seem like thoughtlessness to me.

Sometimes I’m funny, but not as frequently as I shitpost.

Niceness and kindness aren’t the same to me; I aspire to the latter but not the former.

I’m pretty reliably a killjoy (I try to kill the right joy).

If you’re here for a series of peer reviewed lit toots, bummer.

“Starting in January, California will become the first US state to enact a ban on parking minimums, halting their use in areas with public transport in a move that Governor Gavin Newsom called a “win-win” for reducing planet-heating emissions from cars, as well as helping alleviate the lack of affordable housing in a state that has lagged in building new dwellings.” Via @Wired #ThePowerOfParking wired.com/story/us-cities-are-
