My favourite phrase in that regard: "The truth usually is somewhere in the middle"

@freemo @commandelicious I like the police in Scotland. I am friendly with some police dog handlers and talk to them a fair bit. I suppose I should have added police dogs as an interest too. Well, animals in general because they are great. Except for earwigs and giant millipedes because they freak me out a bit. They can stay outside the house!

@jonlandrum It's self enforcing toxic masculinity. For me that's not a buzzword, it's actively hurting men, too. But of course it's always easier to blame something or someone else.

@commandelicious
I've always gotten along with women much more easily than with men. Only one of my friends is a man, and rarely in the past have I had male friends. We kind of suck.

@Demo318 @freemo @Katobell
Thinking about how many of my friends in STEM work at least partly from home I think that would be a ideal with raising kids (not to mention that my half sisters husband is a stay home dad and he did raise my niece perfectly :D )
I don't think there is an easy answer here. I think there never is.

@freemo @commandelicious I love hanging out with talkative people, this has been a really fun conversation :) @Demo318

@commandelicious In America when i see a cop i get scared and looka round for anything they might give me shit for. In the netherlands when I see them I smile and wave and ask them if they know a good coffee shop nearby :)

@freemo The dutch rock!
I only have good memories from my time working there. Even the police is smiling.

@commandelicious for me its their softness. I dont mean physically, but they are often more gentle than man. They often are more concerned with your emotional well being and do their best to enrich it.

Obviously generalizations dont work completely, there are always exceptions. But I find this to be often the case at least.

Most of my friends in america are women becuase America is so toxic that I really need as much "softness" in my life there as I can find.

Sadly now that I'm in the I have far fewer female friends. But that is because I mostly made friends through friends of friends. In time I'm sure the numbers will balance out.

@freemo Now I am seriously wondering if your ancestors are from Germany and if you are like a very distant cousin :D

@freemo @commandelicious @Katobell @Demo318 One thing I can tell you, male peers have never looked down on me for being a woman. It's only ever been managers or clients. The people you work with every day know how much you put in and your sex doesn't matter one bit.

I was considering going into business for myself after I finish my degree and I was genuinely wondering about hiring a man to be the 'face' for my company simply so I don't have to deal with clients who won't take a woman seriously.

It's ridiculous, but I know they exist, I have met too many of them and I don't have the time or inclination to deal with that. I'd rather just get someone else to deal with the muppets 😖

@Katobell @freemo @Demo318
I am the exact opposite. I never stop talking and love to share what I know. But without having a dialogue that's just boring.
If you have something to tell, know something interesting please share :)

@freemo honestly? Partly incessant questioning from men on whether my fandom/knowledge is as rigorous as theirs (so tedious) and partly that I'm not much of a talker anyway, I'd rather find out about other people. @commandelicious @Demo318

On the plus side:
I now know what cloth sizes means and what colour goes with what.
Humans are versatile.
You can learn nearly everything given enough time. Doesn't matter what gender you are as long as you have interest in learning something. My educated guess is that interest in STEM is just killed off in women by society.

You know why I enjoy hanging out with women? Because they are generally nicer. Nicer in the way that I don't have to always somehow proof my manliness. It's just more relaxed >.>

@Nyoei I think we have been improving things for women in tech over time. At least I really hope we have. I'd be curious to see the percentage of women in tech over time. I'll have to google it.

Thanks for your valuable perspective.
