@ruebig Ah, I misunderstood. Yes, it would be nice if they’d add a way more easily search and find the tag to use!

@numericcitizen Sorry my suggestion didn’t help. I’m away from my Mac, but when I have a chance I’ll take a look. I know I’ve had this issue and worked it out in the past.

@kevinctofel @jnv The mini is such a great size. My wife recently got one and I’m very tempted to get one for me. I have the 11” iPad Pro, and it’s nearly perfect for me, but there are times that the smaller mini size would be so nice. I also have the LTE watch and you’re making me realize I could leave my phone behind more!

@ruebig I’m not sure when this was added, but in the Files app in iOS 16 you can search for tags, and combine tags with other text. For example, in the search field, start typing the name of a tag and it will appear in a drop down. Tap it to search for that tag. You can others in the same way. You can also add text after the tags to further limit the search.

I hope this helps.

I think I’m going to move to a new Mastodon instance that supports editing. I’ve had some other issues with the official app and my instance as well (replies don’t show up for one).

This should be automatic (so I’ve read). I hope I don’t mess anything up as I’ve just gotten started here.

Any suggestions on which instance? Other gotchas? I was thinking keeping it simple and going with mastodon.social, but not sure if others are better.

@rlounsbury Same here. The versatility can’t be beat, IMO.

@rlounsbury Thanks. You’re right that modern computing is flexible. That’s a great way to think about it.

Fellow Mac nerds, I need your help. I’ve had a problem created on a Fusion Drive due to a failed Boot Camp installation, see apple.stackexchange.com/questi

I need help fixing the drive as outlined in my linked stack exchange post. #Catalina #MacOS10.15.7 #BootCamp

@ambihelical Thanks! I sent a message and will see what he says.

@ruebig They are certainly great when used just as a tablet. As a bonus, they are so well integrated with the Mac that it’s easy to jump back and forth as needed.

@dennyhenke Thanks, Denny. I love the idea of a web ring! Some of those “old fashioned” aspects of the web are sorely missed.

@jasonmcfadden Thanks, Jason! I appreciate it. I’ll read it in a bit.

@jasonmcfadden Thanks, Jason. When I tap that “edit” button, nothing happens. I’m guessing, based on what @ianRobinson suggested, that my instance doesn’t have this enabled.

I may have to look into what it takes to switch instances. I sort of just picked on at the beginning.

@ianRobinson Thanks. I tried to edit with the official app, but tapping “edit” doesn’t do anything. The full web interface on my instance does not show an edit button.

Perhaps you’re right and it’s not enabled on my instance. If so that’s a shame. Maybe I need to find a different instance.

I appreciate the help!

Police water cannons are yet again turned on the scientists. Today an estimated 10,000 peaceful protestors in the Hague, are demonstrating against Dutch government subsidies to the fossil fuel industry, totalling at least 37.5 billion euros a year.

I’m fairly new to Mastodon. Is there some secret to editing a post? I can’t seem to get it to work.

I posted using Ice Cubes, which doesn’t seem to support edit.

I then tried Ivory (after subscribing), but when posting the edit it gives an error “coudn’t find what you were looking for.”

Next, I tried directly on my instance in Safari. There is no edit button for the post there.

Delete works in all cases. And, “delete and edit” or “delete and redraft” seem to work.

Any suggestions?

@WarnerCrocker @jsnell @gruber @harrymccracken @wes_davis

Good thoughts, Warner. No Goldilocks device, so use the one(s) that are most ideal. Tablet, laptop, or both.

The baseline is a smartphone (iPhone especially, hence the annual keynote reveal anticipation). I've used a laptop or tablet as my "main/only PC" over the years, but the smartphone persists. So even if Vision Pro is the new "future of computing," I doubt it'll supplant the smartphone.

@jasonmcfadden That is pretty crazy! The price of versatility? 🤔
