@dev_Paul wow, that was a smooth transition. I’m still following you so that’s great. Fosstodon seems like a cool instance!
A tip for those who haven't seen this yet. #Mastodon has its own "#verification" system. Adding a link to your Mastodon profile from your website using the rel="me" attribute will #verify that the owner of both the site and profile are the same, and you get this nifty green highlight to show it.
👋 I am Rowan - background in computational geophysics working on open source, science communication tools.
I am now working:
✍️ curvenote.com writing tools for scientists
📖 executablebooks.org the community behind JupyterBook
🛠 myst.tools a community introducing standards for the MyST Markdown
All open source tools, aiming to get science communication out of PDF documents!
I usually post about #OpenScience and interactive communication tools.
#introduction Let's do this!
Hi, I am a scientist at the Baker Heart & Diabetes Institute in Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺, with interests in #microbiology, #bioinformatics and #computerscience.
I focus on the human #microbiota and its link with health and other traits. Before that, I worked for 10+ years on #pathogen #genomics, #ecology and #evolution in the UK.
I hope this platform will create a friendly and inclusive academic community!
I would appreciate tips to find people to follow in biology, cs, genomics and anything in between.
@thom_ftc@twit.social definitely! It is an incredible machine considering the price. I was kind of hoping to replace my laptop with the pi as it ages. I don’t know how much I would rate the responsiveness.
The one thing I was kind of worried about was the reliability of the SD card over time. I have read that they are not as durable as a regular hard drive but have not used one long enough yet to see it fail.
@trinsec No I have not tried it yet, but I remember having an online friend who really enjoyed and advocated for it. I am going to give it a try now!
@Didida 祝您早日康复
In that first decade of learning to code, "logging" was not a concept. Something so painfully useful that seems so simple until you dig in... #logging
@worldsendless it’s definitely a tool that I have yet to take grasp. I have worked mostly in Python and the projects I worked on already had logging set up by others.
Experiencing a lot of crashes with #firefox 10.6.3 on Windows. I hope they fix it soon. Don’t feel like installing chrome on my vm so I am using Edge(which is actually decent tbh).
I appreciate that not only is there a new CD-i game in 2022(!), but it's open source. The CD-i standard itself has been open source for years, but having this source code means an actual practical example you can reference if you want to make something for it.
2022: the CD-i renaissance is real.
Wow, the #Fediverse sure is hopping with activity lately. Can't complain, though. Welcome if you're #newhere!
@shrestha Yes, time to take a “tax” based on my kids’ candy haul!
@adamhsparks @OpenPlantPathology Very cool, that sounds like a great idea for collaboration! Thank you for sharing how you do it!
@betschart Even in the short time I’ve been here I’ve seen a lot of neuroscience and biology researchers join. Hope you can find others from your community here!
@OpenPlantPathology @adamhsparks Have you had any luck with paper’s you submit in this format?
I’m not a researcher, but I would be interested in submitting papers for school using a similar technique. The only issue is that my markdown knowledge is fairly basic so I might need word anyway for formatting changes each time.
Just broke into software development. Currently struggling to grasp C!
