@neurobongo @DrCuff Yeah, all of the above seems true. Whether migrating from mastodon or leaving twitter you are rebuilding. I have 3 mutuals from twitter that I managed to connect with again but the rest are new people to learn and share with. It is bittersweet.

@c_ratcliffe Thank you for the recommendations! That is funny that people would be death metal purists, but I guess when you really like something it is worth defending. There are an amazing amount of subgenres within metal that I could see there being room for debate.

I will start sampling this list! I will be covered for the next many work weeks!

@vern oh well. I did get this one to display with the 2/3 fraction example. I have been told that this only works partially currently. It seems to work better on the web version on mobile for me.

I am a big pick a song/genre and let the algorithm pick the rest so I have probably listened to more bands but don’t remember names.

@neurobongo I have seen in other’s posts that there may be tools to migrate your account including those who you follow if you do move instances. Don’t hold me to it and I’m not sure if there is still something that gets lost in the move.

I picked the instance I’m on and I feel I’m pretty lucky. I think there are a couple thousand active users so the local timeline is full but there isn’t so much content that it’s a firehose.

@shrestha I actually disagreed with someone without feeling a bit of animosity and I was polite about it. On a personal level I do feel the calm you’re talking about and I’m enjoying being curious about other’s opinions again. :)

@drdrowland What is your overall impression of Windows 11? I am usually a linux diehard but I actually like it.

I bought a really cheap laptop so there have been some hiccups like on the start menu it says “There are no power options” when try to shut it down. It kind of reminds me of the old days when I couldn’t configure wifi in Linux.

@jferg I’m sure good old Musk will do his part of the job. It sounds crazy over there right now with the massive firings and other antics.

Hopefully the influx will continue and for every couple of people who don’t end up staying one person will. :)

Hello, I’m new to the QOTO and the Fediverse and want to introduce myself.

I’m currently making a career transition to software engineering. I have worked in Python a little bit in the past year and am currently starting to use C. My interest/area of work is #embedded #softwareEngineering although I’m very new to it and software engineering in general. I am going back to school to get an Associates in Computer Engineering to hopefully fill in some gaps that I have.

Outside of work I am slowly working on a #mud using the #evennia framework in Python. I also enjoy spending time with my kids by going on walks around town. My oldest son just started cubscouts and I am glad he is enjoying camping because it’s something I have always enjoyed too!

I’m looking forward to connecting with other people here and on other Mastodon servers too.
