@derickflorian There is a stty setting on Linux, onlcr, where the kernel inserts a CR (\r) before each newline (\n, LF) before giving it to the terminal. Programs using cursor addressing usually turn this off.

Teletypes sometimes needed a delay, or maybe a few NUL characters, following the CR character to give the carriage time to return to the left margin before they could process more characters (such as the line feed to advance the paper). There are settings in stty for this as well (crN, ffN, nlN, ofill, ofdel).

Probably at this point we should just repurpose \v for something else.

I've been using the internet since 1992 and contributing to #Wikipedia since 2001. I haven't used Twitter since early 2021 because I decided it was unhealthy, and I used Mastodon a fair bit that year, but then lost my account through, apparently, inactivity, which I didn't realize was even a thing.

Hi! I'm Morgan, a #Software engineer living in western #EU. I work as a lead developer, with an increasing focus on the #HumanFactors involved in making software. I'm also pursuing a #Psychology degree with the aim of becoming a better #UX #UI designer. When I write code I use #Java and #Typescript but i'd like to go back to #Ada someday.

Here's a forró band performing a song called "Baião." The video is taken from a DVD and has English subtitles.

This song is in the baião style. (Yes, the same name.) I've read that it was Luiz Gonzaga's first big hit, making this style of music famous. The lyrics seem to be all about how great it is to dance the baião, so I guess you could say it's self-recommending.

Starting to learn a totally brand new for me musette tune for the accordion. the Valse Italienne "Volupta" by V. Marceau. A tune picked almost at random from my 6 books of 110 musette tunes each (660!). Am doing very bad neurologically but right hand thankfully cooperating today! P.S. Video is just 1.8MB so I think it's ok to load here.

Now I'm going to school full time at Seattle's Wood Tech Center for Carpentry and working full time at a Tiny House Village serving our homeless community.
