3 large Instances now at the top of the JoinMastodon.org suggestions list.

I am glad, that there are other larger instances, helping accommodate new users joining

👍 Bida.im is suprising me, didn't realize they had those numbers. Congrats!

New user? need a Guide?

There's a good one here: lifehacker.com/a-beginner-s-gu

@realcaseyrollins Oh, Geez, and that's after we deleted a bunch of spam accounts earlier this week.

About 50 created in maybe 10 minutes or so. Bot action from NJ, US.

We passed 5,000 maybe two weeks ago, almost 6,000 now. Sadly many of those never post much.

@design_RG Which is disappointing but what can one do? Esp. if they never post once?

At least they have somewhere to go if they get banned from another instance or something.

@realcaseyrollins Yes, that's true. Many places have degrees of restrictions for new accounts. Some are by invite only.

We are not a General instance, imo; the theme gets diluted if we go that way. Easier to keep focus on a smaller place, but this is an open one, and the spot at the top of the list gives a lot of exposure.

I selected my first instance from that page, Qoto, but not by default -- I liked the theme and focus, and chose it for that reason.

@design_RG could I ask what kind of screenshot software are you using? (just curious )😊

@Sphinx 🙂 For quick job, a one use image like that one above, I would use the built in Screen Capture in Waterfox (same as Firefox Aurora version 68).

Took a couple snapshots to show it:

- the first I used the whole screen capture (to get the Firefox menu in action), then cropped and compressed the image to .png in Irfanview.

@Sphinx ...continued...

- the second I used the Right click, select Screen Shot from the Firefox Context menu, and snapped it to your post box only (it does a good guessing job of what block you want, or pick two window limit points - upper, lower corners.).

@design_RG I like the color of the box most of the tool is default red (could adjust the color)

@Sphinx The highlight rectangle? Yes, you can pick any colour easily in Irfanview toolbox. I use either a lime green or an orange like show above, whichever will contrast more with the background colours.
