"Coronavirus: 'Pets no risk to owners' vets stress
By Victoria Gill Science correspondent, BBC News "

"Veterinary scientists have recommended cat owners keep their pets indoors to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus among animals.

But the British Veterinary Association stressed "owners should not worry" about risk of infection from pets.

"There isn't a single case of a pet dog or cat infecting a human with Covid-19," Dr Angel Almendros, from City University in Hong Kong, told BBC News.

Research has shown cats may be able to catch the virus from other cats. "

@design_RG That is a very dishonest statement by Dr. Angel...

Yes its true we dont have any confirmed cases of animals infecting humans, but that is entirely because in virtually **all** cases where someone gets infected the original source is unknown. So that tells us nothing about how likely it is to spread from cat to human.

What we do know is we have dozens of cases of animals testing positive for COVID-19, while they are more weakly infected than humans it seems they do get infected and as such are very much capable of spreading the disease, at least in theory.

@freemo @design_RG I'd like to add, tigers are now coming down with COVID-19, so it is possible for a person to infect an animal or pet. Seems to me like it could certainly work the other way around. No proof it has, though.

@realcaseyrollins

Tigers, cats, and dogs all have confirmed infections with dozens of cases and examples... Keep in mind there are **very** few cases of even attempting to test animals since the vast majority of our limited testing capability is directed at humans. so its reasonable to expect that animals/pets contracting COVID-19 from humans, and thus being able to transmit it to humans, is not only possible but probably common.

@realcaseyrollins
Yes, the BBC article mentioend and has a photo of a tiger in a NYC zoo who contracted the virus. Poor guy. 😔
