My orthodontist friend of mine threw away 150+ perfectly working computers so far because it doesn't support Windows 11. I asked him to give me a few of them before throwing any more away and this is what he has given me so far. I can probably ask for even more if I wanted to.

All of them are perfectly working and runs the latest #Fedora / #Kubuntu / #AlmaLinux just fine. It is crazy the amount of e-waste is being created by Microsoft.

It used to be that I could take whatever was written on the PCB of an ISA card, or remember a handful of misspelled English words of a song from an old anime soundtrack, put them in a search engine and immediately find out which card was that, or what songs those words belonged to. No matter how obscure the topic, a very specific bit of information would yield exactly what I was looking for. That doesn't work anymore.

hey @frameworkcomputer, are you aware that Omarchy is headed by racist far-right disgruntled coder who recently upended the entire Ruby ecosystem? is that the stuff you really want to be associated with? jakelazaroff.com/words/dhh-is-

Unix Time 1760000000 will be on:

Okay! That was easier than I expected, compared to the advice I was given. Now I just have to worry about whether Microsoft enabled one of their data-stealing features without telling me and if so whether it's still on. I guess. And also the fact that I will not want to use Windows 11 any more in one year than I do now.

Hey #vintagesynths community, just got my hands on a MC-307, and the BPM/Pitch controls wouldn't work. I opened the backlid and surprise ! The keyboard PCB is broken, unconnecting around 10 circuit tracks. As the seller won't refund me, and given this peculiar PCB is hard to find, I think of restoring continuities by soldering hair-thin cables. What do you think of this ? Would you try a repair ? The two switches seem to be the only defect as far as I can tell. And BPM can be set per-pattern via a submenu.

I've made a few mistakes when working with data over the years, but I feel better today knowing that none of my mistakes have involved being out by £200mn-£500mn a month.

I'm looking for work!

I'm a high-level infra and devops engineer and team lead.

I've previously run my own team, and previously worked at Mozilla and Facebook. I'm looking for infra/devops lead or senior infra/devops engineer positions.

I'm not looking for pure development positions, but writing scripts, glue, and things like CI - as demanded by infra/devops - are totally fine. I just don't want to be developing the product.

The one thing I can't budge on is that I am exclusively looking for 100% remote positions, due to physical disability. I am based in the UK but I'm happy working with companies anywhere in the world, and capable of shifting my circadian rhythm around to match yours.

My CV is available at cv.dave.io. I am available to start immediately. The CV is a Notion page and can be cloned directly into your workspace if you use Notion. I'm more than happy to answer any questions, and all leads are graciously appreciated. Drop me a public or private mention, or use the other contact details listed on my CV.

My email address is gated behind a humanity check (don't worry, it's automated) at dave.io.

You are very welcome to boost this post, with my thanks.

Formal court orders? Subpoenas? Vague emails from law enforcement? Pings from regulatory bodies you never knew even existed? Oh, they all spell one thing: government requests!

Colt Technology Services have decided to start updating their cyber incident page again. In their latest update, dated both 29th September, 2025 and 6th October, 2025, they say they have rebuilt 2/3rd of their laptops so far, almost two months into the incident. As far as I know this is the first confirmation ransomware made it to laptops.

I pinged a staff member on LinkedIn who said they haven’t had a PC for the duration of the incident 😬

Hey internet!

I want to use Microsoft Entra ID's MFA solution (Microsoft Authenticator + Conditional Access) to MFA the login of on-premise AD joined workstations.

Client has Duo. Doesn't want to use third-party solutions anymore.

Is this possible? Point a fella to a how-to?

The part a lot of Americans don't get, especially Democrats, is the executive branch always operated on the honor system. These power grabs, drastic changes, firings, and defiance of the law were always possible under the "old" system. A compliant SCOTUS wasn't required but it's useful as a rubber stamp of legality. Congress being corrupt as fuck and functionally useless enabled a continual expansion of presidential power, which Democrats enabled under previous Republican administrations.
