Here in the UK the Tories abandoned the centre-right ground that allowed them to dominate British politics for a century in order to chase after their far-right fringe, who were splintering off to join Reform UK (aka the Brexit Party). The Brexit vote was intended to silence the fringe maniacs but backfired (it went the wrong way because of a mass protest vote against austerity policies) and triggered a slide into radicalization that is making the party unelectable.
