I used to live in a nice, safe neighbourhood, but that was before the #unicorn decapitations started

Sunamura no onryo is a ghostly pumpkin #yokai with a bright orange pumpkin for a head & a body with arms & legs made of pumpkin vines & leaves. The poor thing struggles to lug around its heavy head. Despite this it was believed to appear after dark in Sunamura village & chase after people. Little else is known about this yokai other than its appearance on an 1858 board game alongside many other more well-known creatures from #JapaneseFolklore.

🔴 Helena malt eigentlich lässig, coole Bilder, aber ihre Porzellanwaffen möchte man gleich ausprobieren. Schade, es ist Kunst.
🔴 Helena actually paints casually cool pictures, but her #porcelain weapons you want to try right away. Too bad, it's art.

Some photos from this morning’s walk. I think there are some #liverworts on the twig with the droplet of water. The one with a knot and lateral twig extending from the main trunk looks like an ancient, rheumy eyed salamander with #fungi growing along it’s body. Also, an above and below shot of a cluster of fungi.
Amber Jelly, Exidia recisa. A Winter fungi and a new find for me, grows on willow and takes on this almost translucent amber colour when wet. Jewels on a twig #MushroomMonday #mushrooms #fungi #cumbria Location, Bowness-on-Solway NNR
Nudge theory in action. £20 Waterstones Christmas gift card burning a hole in my pocket no longer. #mosstodon and #sporespondence definitely had an influence with these two ‘impulse’ buys today.
Been working on a #moth page in my nature journal celebrating all the creatures that came to a black light sheet back in July of 2021 at the Schulenberg Prairie of the #MortonArboretum. #InverteFest
Discovered this amazing virtual exhibition about thousands of 17th century letters in the Dutch postal system that were never delivered!

Flagging this piece from the Guardian. Still plenty to watch out for during winter. Cemeteries are also may favourite haunts for an urban nature walk this time of year.

After countless mince pies and glasses of sherry, it’s those all too rare households that leave out portaloos on Christmas Eve that Santa really appreciates. #merrychristmas
Holloways - from the Anglo-Saxon ‘hola weg’, or sunken road - are ancient green lanes carved over centuries by livestock, wagon wheels and human feet.
Locals call this one Hunt’s Lane but you won’t find that name on a map. Shivers down your spine are guaranteed as you follow in the footsteps of countless others and wonder: what errands were all those folk doing, what was on their mind?

I made a tiny sewing machine! It’s a Christmas present for my grandma, who loves sewing and quilting. The model is roughly 1/6th scale and mostly made of basswood, finished with acrylic paint and various metal bits. I based my design on a real vintage Singer model from the 1920s.
