The good: On Tuesday, I paid around 350 yen ($2.50) for a trip to the hospital to get stitches removed from my cheek.

The “I can live with that”: It cost around ¥42,000 ($300) to put them there the week before. (Not bad for a minor surgery.)

The horror: The anesthesia wore off midway through the actual stitching, and I felt the needlework on my face for 10 to 15 minutes. 😱 Call me Rambo.

The doctor apologized later.

Japan is injecting stimulus money to help ease inflation, but this will likely cause an even bigger inflation monster down the road! As the BOJ's currency intervention is failing to keep the Yen from crashing, consumer prices are soaring in Japan with inflation reaching a 33-year high. And to fight this, they are going to print money to ease the higher cost of living. But beware of the law of unintended consequences!

On July 5, 2012, Venus transited in front of the solar disk: it is one of the rarest astronomical events ever, with the next transit occurring in almost a hundred years, in 2117. A photographer in New Mexico was admiring the disk of Venus on the Sun when he noticed that a plane on the left was heading exactly towards our star. With the ready camera aimed at the Sun, the photographer was able to take this wonderful image!
