💡 VFX Reference Platform User Group 2023 Meeting (for CY2024 guidelines)

As I'm downloading Blender 4.1 support material, I was curious about what Linux distro recommendations the VFX community made for 2024. I see the Linux distro rec PDF doc is the same from 2022 (drive.google.com/file/d/12k-YZ), but the topic is also discussed in the embedded video here, that I'm currently watching.

If a technical book was free to read on the web under a Creative Commons license, would you still buy a digital copy if it were made available in other formats? (Think PDF, ePub, Info, etc)

EU Committee approves:

🚫 Prohibition of cash payments over €10,000

🆔 Prohibition of anonymous cash payments over €3,000

₿ Prohibition of anonymous crypto payments to hosted wallets without any threshold

This means war on cash and gradual erosion of our financial freedom!

Super happy with my Framework laptop by the way!

The module system is great. I printed a snack drawer today! Now I can always take three peanuts with me!

woohoo!! You are much more advanced than me @nickanderson !
Love it!!! :ablobcatheart:

@ChristianKrebel for , you can always build on them as this person have!

The ‘problem’ of the , and also of the , is that they take a good amount of space on the .. now, if that is a problem, only depends on you… but if is on top of the list, the can only be beaten by custom ones… ^^

The problem for me, is the only 2 thumb keys, I think 3 would have been perfect! :blobaviator: do you hear me? XD

Sorry for the delay @ctietze !
Have recorded a short sample, but apart from being cool, I do not find it very ready just yet.. it is very slow and lacks some of the 2D functionalities... there's an option to add text on every node, but crashes on my computer, and it is quite modern... also, the labels inside the node, make it unreadable...

For the last time:

Abyss = for staring into
Void = for screaming into

Please stop screaming into the abyss we’re not insured for that

I learned this morning of the passing of Akira Toriyama, the father of Dragon Ball, Dr. Slump, designer of Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger. Also, probably the artist who influenced me the most when I started drawing. Here is an old fan art I drew of Arale. My heart is really heavy this morning...

beware @ChristianKrebel ..... that then you'll likely struggle to use again a qwertz XD

Well, I went dvorak, very far from qwerty/z.... might be less pronounced the effect on a Colemak layout ^^
Still, expect to drop typing speeds, unless you constant swap one with the other :ablobderpy:

I kinda hope I went with a Voyager, feel the constant urge to bring the moonlander with me e.where XD the voyager is much more portable :)

I actually find the 2D more useful, as it also shows titles and not just spheres @ChristianKrebel , but it is interesting to visualize :)

As an example, this is the same view, but in !

I considered Obsidian, but ultimately went with roam as I wanted something multi-platform, libre and potentially future proof : )
But a big factor was that I already was using emacs, so it was just about installing a package and learning it ^^

On mobile is less user friendly, but I can always refine notes on the pc, and probably better ^^

Now there's a very usable emacs for android, and in combination with the moonlander, it is not too far from the desktop experience :)

I actually find it useful for the way my mind works.. have a gazillion notes that I rarely remember I took @ervan .. with roam-ui, I instead get a quick refresh every time a linked note is consulted :)
still have those gazillion notes to port, no idea if one day I will do it :abloblamp:
the perk is that I can share my interconnections with people that couldn't care less :ablobbass:
