Whats spinster's deal? Their website just mentions "radical feminism" but seems most of their posts are anti-trans, though admittedly pro-female of a sort too in some sense.

This seems very unusual for a feminist group. Do they have some sort of origin story that might explain the consistency in their lean or am i just jumping to conclusions?

@freemo no idea but it seems popular. I think it's legit feminists who are being censored.

even the left wing can't escape all the crazy censorship going on

@DavidBond I could see that, all the feminists who dont fit the mainstream feminist views feeling they need to form their own collective.

@freemo well imagine being a old school feminist and suddenly this weird "woke" culture becomes trendy and starts telling you how to talk and what to think, and suddenly you start having your twitter posts deleted for saying the most normal shit... of course some are going to seek shelter lol

@DavidBond I mean some of the anti-trans stuff I see from them is pretty disgusting. Not all of them though, but some. I can understand why they might get hostility over a lot of that.

Though I do agree even the ones who might not be anti-trans are likely to experience a lot of censorship in todays environment. Though the ones on spinster strike me not as normal feminists who just happened to get banned, but mostly a specific set of feminists who are anti-trans (or at least thats what it looks like). I may not like censorship but I mean, thats a hard thing to be accepting of.

@freemo ah well ive barely read anything on it. I don't really give a crap. The more people getting banned from legacy social media the better... maybe people will wake up and stop using it

@DavidBond yea if it got them to the fediverse its already an improvement. As long as they aren't going out of their way to harass trans people or something then ill just let them be.

@freemo I'm not sure how to see the posts there without logging in, but based on your description I guess they are TERF's: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TERF . Key quote: "These feminists, mainly second-wave feminists, perceive trans men as "traitors" to womanhood and trans women as "infiltrators"."

This seems like a pretty natural stance for radical feminists that consider gender to be based purely on non-brain biology, but it still makes me a bit sad.

@timorl From what im seeing from spinster it does fit that description. They see trans people as effectively some sort of a sexist insult to feminists.

I agree though, totally makes me sad, I dont agree with it either. But I guess as long as they keep to themselves and arent actively trying to hurt and harass the trans community its not as bad as some of the other shit going on int he fediverse at least.

I dunno, leaves a bad taste in my mouth all the same.
