It seems to be getting harder and harder to catch spammers early. We either need closed registration or more moderators to catch it quicker.

@freemo They have a posting pattern. And it coincides with your sleep!

@shibaprasad @freemo

We will have someone in the Americas region soon.

Would be nice to have someone in the Asian region, as their hours are a lot different from the main crew ones.

@shibaprasad @freemo Also -- having a more restricted entry might be an idea.

Accounts approved when staff is online, then open to the new user first posts, and catching some of the more blatant abuse.

@design_RG
Is that configuration possible?

I think there are two types of insurances: Open and Closed.

In closed instances, you need someone from the instance to send you invitation.
@freemo

@shibaprasad
Some instances have a registration page with a "Tell us about yourself" field, and a text entry box for the user.

I have seen questions like:

- do you know any users at our instance?
- why would you like to join us?
- please explain how your political views align with ours (for a more politically active instance).
- etc.

I have applied to a couple with this kind of front door, and had to wait for their Staff to read and verify, approve or not the request.

Works well, if you ask me.

@shibaprasad
The thread is becoming fast paced and I am not sure what looks good, lol.

I agreed the questionnaire at the door does discourage new users, specially first time ones.

I did apply to one of those two, and will do it for the second, as I am aligned with them and like their users I have met on the Feeds.

Regarding new posts containment -- we NEED a really LOCAL, Instance-ONLY feed, where any posts are NOT federated.

This if it could be the only area a new user could post at first, could help contain problems.

Glitch-Soc mastodon fork already has that, the purely local feed. I don't know if it allows restricting users to posting only on that area, but it would be a good idea. Some forums act that way, and open more areas upon the user showing what they are like.

@design_RG

Yea im all for merging in glitch-soc features to qoto features. Though its a bit of a time investment I dont have lately. Perhaps we can get someone to submit a PR

@shibaprasad

@freemo
That's wonderful! I wish I had the knowledge to help with that, sorely don't. I have the time but nowhere close to the skill or experience needed.

@shibaprasad

@design_RG

We just need to find a way to combine your free time with my skills and we will be golden :) Together we might form one complete human being :)

@shibaprasad

@freemo LOL, that would be awesome.

If I can do some of the housekeeping and keeping watch, that might free senior developer time for looking at merging the glitch-soc niceties. 👍

@design_RG

My time isnt really limited by QOTO so much as my commercial ventures right now. But that will help for sure.

@shibaprasad

@freemo
Yes, I imagine so, and those are really important.

Anything you feel I can help with here, just let me know.
