Sometimes I feel dumb when I'm trying to understand a Math proof or a new study and dont understand what they are saying...

Then I realize there are people out there who think Climate Change isnt human caused or a serious problem, grown ass adults who literally arent even as smart as a middle schooler.

Then I feel better about myself but then I stress over how many stupid people there are.

@freemo As a Mathematician this is the most validation I have received all week.

@freemo @miguel31416 Hope is never truly lost and necessity is the mother of invention. The only reason why humanity has not rectified the problem is that the right mix of knowledge and hardship has yet to occur.

@AmpBenzScientist

I think the issue isnt so much the lack of hardship, there is plenty. the issue is more so that the hardship ramps up slowly over generations so its hard to see and easy to normalize.

@freemo This climate discussion is a good example of something I like call "modern tribalism". Group A has certain goals and ideas and if you're part of it, you automatically have to affirm all of them. If you're a member of group B you automatically have to oppose every statement group A makes, no matter how true/false they may be. At best, this setting produces some hilarious results, and at worst the results are truly tragic and depressing.

I expect that most members of QOTO are reasonable enough think for themselves and resist these tribal urges that seem to play a role in the human psyche.
