@deltarae @freon @freemo @mngrif @tuxcrafting they're not going to bail the activitypub network because they wouldn't have anything to complain about
they like this drama. Have you seen these threads? People are enthusiastic about blocking instances - it gets more engagement than any other post they make, and for far less effort.
It's the perfect dopamine storm. The person who posts it feels like they're doing the right thing, and are vindicated when people boost it. The people who block the domain and cc their admin feel like they're doing the right thing by jumping on the bandwagon, and by being "proactive about safety".
People, who never were powerful on Instagram or Twitter or Tumblr, now control websites with thousands of people signed up. They're angry at how moderation occurred on those platforms so they want to prove how they can do better. And unlike those platforms, they get significant positive reenforcement for the actions they take.
So no, despite what they've said about going back to Twitter or making a new protocol (Parastat) they have no intention of doing any such thing. They're going to remain as a scourge on this network, discouraging people from joining due to the never-ending drama, fights, cancellations, etc. Eventually that might be overcome, I already feel like it is in a lot of places, but who knows.
Ultimately, the number one thing to do is NOT what
@mngrif did. I get how it can be appealing to take the easy road but it's not the best one. Instead of moving to another instance to please the instance blockers, the people on the blocking instances should move to instances that do not block. While it's hard to convince people to leave their home on the Fediverse, show them what they're missing out on - and if they refuse to come along, so be it, it's their loss. There's no lack of good and interesting people who are willing to talk on here.
how? no idea, but according to them it is
