@design_RG Dude there are some pretty disgusting and oppressive instances on that list... some of the worst actors in the fediverse are on there... scholar.social, really

Virtually every one of those instances have been oppressive to instances with opposing viewpoints to their own and usually spread disgusting lies about any instance that doesnt fit their ideals..

Its a list of fanaticism mostly (a few instances on there are ok).

boo

@alex

As we said when we blocked it. Should your moderation policies change such that harassment of the form we expiernced en masse would be moderated you only need let us know and we would be happy to remove the silence.

So far I have heard no such indication of any change in policy. Only repeated justification (and even lies) about what happened at the time.

If that has changed and the server has reformed its moderation policies in that regard I would be more than happy to remove the silence.

Is that the case?

@design_RG

@freemo @design_RG Let me know when you take your head out of your ass and unblock Spinster and maybe we can be friends. Until then you're just going to look like a hypocrite every time you complain about "oppressive" instances censoring other points of view.
@alex @freemo @design_RG I'm inclined to agree despite my personal issues with spinster. mostly because many of the instances on that list that both me and freemo seem to agree are oppressive do the same thing that's being done here from qoto, blocking nonviolent opinions. every instance has its rotten eggs but I do think some of the users on spinster have valuable experiences and insights that are worth reading, even if disagreeable to many

@Ox

i think you misunderstand **why** spinster is blocked. It has absolutely nothign to do with their opinions.

They were silenced some time ago when a gang of over a dozen users began systematically harassing QOTO users (primarily moderators at the time, and primarily me) by creating hundreds of threads and tagging us with threats and personal insults.

We asked multiple times to be left alone and engaged in personal mutes for the first 24 hours but it persisted over days and the personal mutes were circumvented by opening new threads or tagging from new accounts.

Eventually we had no choice but to silence the whole server. we even spent 24 hours talking to the moderators first saying we didnt want to silence them but they would have to fix the harassment and mute circumvention first, but nothing ever came of it.

Ultimately they were silenced due to what was effectively massive spam/harassment, their views play no part in the silence.

@alex @design_RG

@freemo @alex @design_RG I was on spinster and fse when this happened and I think the general issue is that a lot of the spinster users didn't understand what the fediverse was or how it worked as many had never used it before. they thought all posts were spinster posts and thought they were replying to trolls or being baited. I do think this is a spinster issue and I don't know how alex or mk have addressed that issue since that time a while back. however if current active users are now aware of how it works and have gotten to grips with it I don't see where the issue lies. at least thats what I gathered from being on the site itself and interacting with the users of that time.

@Ox

As I stated at the time of the silence, if we are given some assurance the issue has been fixed then I would be more than happy to remove the silence.

the issue is Alex and spinster have repeatedly made no apologies for how they handled the situation, and have outright lied about how the incident developed countless times. This leads me to believe that the issue remains unresolved and should the same incident crop up again the moderator team there would again, do nothing to resolve the issue.

So all I need to see is some indication the moderation team has backtracked on their stance, admits to the error on their part, and ensures publicly that should a repeat would take place they would step in to handle it. Then I'd be more than happy to remove the silence. I just havent seen that.

@alex @design_RG

@freemo @alex @design_RG if that's how you see the situation then that's understandable.
Follow

@Ox

thanks.

Like I said, all we need to hear is that the moderators dont support what happened and in the future would actively work to prevent future occurrences and the silence will be lifted.

Honestly, its not a very big ask, and it is the only thing we stipulated since the incident happened.
