Next time your feeling down just remember there are people stupid enough out there to sincerely beleive germ theory is a hoax, the earth is flat, and that human-caused global warming is a conspiracy...

People literally beleive the whole of science is some giant cabal of scientists in on the conspiracy just so they can get paid... never mind the fact that research scientists are some of the lowest paid scientists compared to those who work for companies implementing and doing...

@freemo
Show me a germ right now. No (((microscopes))) allowed.

@Flannel_Ninja Show me a horse, I dont think they exist... no opening of your eyes allowed!

@freemo
That was a bad one to pick, horses don't actually exist in nature. They were created for white women that desperately wanted to dump resources into a thing that doesn't care about them, that were also rich enough that if they started collecting cats they'd be overrun.

And so was created a giant cat that consumes 1000x the resources of a regular cat, that only takes up 50x the space: the horse.

@freemo And for the flat earth thing, that GPS is fake. All geographic data has been faked and warped to make us look like we're on a globe. Oh and also we faked the historical records to fake people finding out we live on a globe. Oh and also the whole space program is faked.

I feel like once your in that deep there's no getting out :ablobrollingeyes:

@ephyra it only works if you dont actually understand how **anything** works, thats the problem and why its so scary. If they understood even a tiny bit of science they whole thing comes flying apart.

Horses do not exist in the wild? GPS is fake?

Oemphfff, what a bullshit (sorry, for the non educational remark)

@freemo how exactly does knowing I'm the same species as these people help me feel less down?

@M0YNG @freemo
Because you being right isn't due to your genetic differences but due to your individual qualities?

; (You weren't born right, you became right by your own actions).

@lucifargundam @freemo but also for a large part my environment.

My point really was more "how can the same environment result in such differences?" and also "how do we change the environment to improve the chances of people believing in (good quality) science?"

Because it feels a bit of a failure (of society, of education, of the environment we all share) to me that some people have such a view of the world.

@M0YNG

These people are the result of individuals who never invest in themselves and never put effort into in any way improving their skills.

Its the consequence of their ego, they never learned anything and are ignorant int he extreme, usually due to laziness and a refusal to study or learn anything.

But human ego prevents them to admit that to themselves, so they need to fabricate these fictions to give them a sense of being the next einstein who holds the truth to their great discovery but everyone else is just too inferior to get it.

The fantasy is far more palatable to them than the reality. you will notice that almost never are these accomplished individuals and even in the very rare situation where they may be they tend to be low in the hierarchy all the same and their achievements are non-skill based (like that no-name rapper who claims the earth is flat, he is just barely famous, if at all, and is usually ridiculed for having little talent)

@lucifargundam

@freemo @M0YNG
I agree, and this goes back to people's actions. Choosing to humble one's ego and accepting that they might be wrong is important to intellectual growth. Additionally, there is. A difference between people who invest in research material and talk about how they have it- and those who invest in knowledge and implement it.

@freemo Thanks, I feel slightly more depressed now.
