Why do women wear mascara that makes it look like they just woke up and have the flu... in fact, why do women use mascara at all. Then again I kinda find most makeup extremely unattractive so I am probably more bias than most.

Mascara makes eye lashes darker and thus adds contrast to the rest of the makeup. It also makes it look longer by adding strong color to eyelashes.

Every piece of makeup holds a strong specific purpose that is best explained using a mixture of art and science tie-ins.

I don't wear makeup, but have been around a lot of women in my life. I've been told I'm a good listener.

@freemo I don't want to imagine the horror when you have to rub your eyes something fierce and you're wearing mascara.

@freemo "Aesthetic adornment is a cultural universal and mascara can be documented in ancient Egypt. Records from around 4000 BC refer to a substance called kohl that was used to darken eyelashes, eyelids, and eyebrows.[7] Kohl was used to mask the eyes, believed to ward off evil spirits and protect the soul, by both men and women."
