What I don't understand is why anyone would bother. The fact that there's no central authority to "verify" you seems fundamental to the whole concept of federation.
I think that sounds harsher than I mean it. If people want check mark emojis in their name ultimately I don't care. I just don't get it.

There actually is a way you can verify for real on mastodon though.. its called keybase and/or keyoxide. Both will truly verify an account.
