Gun Control state executive order struck down (New Mexico)
As expected, a federal judge 👨🏾⚖️ struck down the state executive order banning #guns in #NewMexico issued by the Governor.

Regardless how one feels about #GunControl, solutions to gun violence need to be addressed by the legislature, not the executive branch (whose job is to enforce the law).
Hopefully this inspires the legislature to take action.

“They have voiced concerns about the ability to protect themselves from violent crime in a city that has been scarred by drive-by shootings and deadly road rage incidents”
Really? Good luck with that.
Why do we as a society continue to put up with the paranoid silliness of gun owners? Statistically, if you’re a gun owner, the most likely person to shoot you is...you. The rest is just crying in your pillow.

Statistically speaking **I** am far more likely to shoot a criminal than myself or an innocent person. For the general population filled with less responsible people that may not be the case. But you cant apply the general to the individual.
Some individuals will have a high probability of killing a bad guy, some people will have a high probability of killing themselves. The problem is it is hard to tell which is which, and ultimately people have a right to decide for themselves which of those groups they think they are in.

Stop being pedantic, Neither I nor any gun owners see ourselves as tough guys. We just want to be responsible and ensure that should we ever be in the horrible happen stance of needing to defend ourselves to save our own lives, that we can.

@freemo @SpinozasHeresy It depends on where you live & whether the police 👮🏾♂️ in your area are ethical.
If you live in a high-crime area with corrupt cops, obtaining a gun is wise, as you are the only line of defense for your family.
If you live in an area with low crime & a respectable police force, owning a gun may not be needed. The latter is becoming a rarity in America, unfortunately.

@darnell @freemo @SpinozasHeresy
another gun lobby myth. Crime has been declining in the United States for decades.
Statistically, after YOU being the most likely person to shoot you, the next likely person to shoot you is an acquaintance, family member, or spouse.
defend your family? Seems like the only defense a gun is likely to provide is the one that defends you against people you know.

Again applying general statistic to an individual is a failure in understanding statistics.
The statistics you are describing apply to an individual selected randomly from the population. It does not take into consideration the individual or the context.
So you cant talk about **me** since you did not select me randomly from the population. Even if you did you'd only be talking about your selection process and why it is likely to yield a particular individual.. talking about "me" without reference to how you selected me really makes no sense when we talk about statistics (and also why most people misunderstand statistics).
