Interesting fact of the day: There is absolutely no legal check on a presidents ability to launch a nuclear missile.
That means for 4 years trump literally could have launched one at any moment on a whim and there was absolutely nothing stopping him other than his own choice not to do so.
Honestly as scary as that sounds, and just as scary that Biden, a senile old coot, has the same access... it amazes me neither of these guys did just for the fuck of it. I guess thank god they have some sense of self preservation cause neither of these twits are holding back for our sake....
That makes no sense... For starters, nukes have been used quite a few time sin test senarios and witnessed by man.
Second, no firebomb no matter how powerful could have the effects that are observed by the masses that witnessed the nukes that have gone off...
Third, and finally, to this day you can still go to these sites and measure the radiation first hand and confirm for yourself. Especially considering that certain radioactive byproducts do not exist outside of as the result of nuclear reactions.
Seems odd to bring it up to a known research scientist on a STEM instance if you had no intention of there being a polite discussion about why you are wrong... but of course I'll respect that with.
I will point out however, the only way one can maintain such easily disproven views is by doing exactly this, refusing to listen to people explaining to you why it cant be right, to not even entertain the information... but to each their own.
@freemo
There's a huge difference between an old apparatchik and a psychopathic loose cannon (Biden and Trump, respectively).
Also, other senior apparatchiks in the US Military Industrial Complex, e.g., Chairman of the JCOS Gen Milley, seem to have prevented worse already at the end of Trump's presidency.
Another Trump administration may replace these Generals by the equivalent of Lakeitels.
@tatzelbrumm Evil comes in many forms.. I do not disagree in the least that there is a huge difference between Biden's manifestation of evil and Trump's
@freemo
Then I recommend caution when comparing the Democrat establishment's ℵ₀ level of corruption with the Trump crowd's ℵ₁ level of corruption, which is infinitely worse.
(You're capable of making that distinction, so take care not to give those who can't distinguish degrees of corruption the impression that they're the same.)
@tatzelbrumm I said absolutely nothing about corruption... there are many ways to be evil other than corruption.
@freemo
True, that … I try to avoid "evil" because it sounds like a moral category of religious believers.
@tatzelbrumm Fair.. immoral, piece of shit,, ,douche nozzle, douche cannoe ... Take your pick :)
@freemo
I pick "corrupt", i.e., contemptuous of laws and common decency.
@freemo well for anyone else who's interested in this line of thought, I'd emphasize no *legal* check.
There are bureaucratic checks, folks in the chain of command who can put up speedbumps or be hassles to any command, whether it be "bring be coffee" or "launch a nuke".
It's not about legality at that point but about management of the sprawling executive branch of the US government.
At some point it might be easier to fulfill some legal requirement than to get cooperation out of some 18 year old service member five levels down a management bureaucracy..
@freemo Maybe no legal check, but I certainly hope the US military that oversees such launches have their own fair share of Stanislav Petrovs.
Nukes as weapons have not been used, to my knowledge, since the US used them on Japan in WW2 and there's good reasons to suspect that may have been firebombing using other bombs instead of a nuke.
If they were real, I think nations would be using them. We just haven't seen that, so I suspect that they aren't real and are just used to keep people in fear.
