At some point in the collective minds of people we stopped understanding the difference between attacking ideas, vs attacking the people who hold those ideas. People assume if you hate an idea someone holds by extension you hate the person. If you think an idea is idiotic then you must think people who hold the idea are idiots.
We need to get back to the place where people dont take personally when ideas are attacked.
@inpc while agree a time delay is helpful i dont think it describes the issue, and its not a social media thing either.
People talk face to face and used to be civil despite no time delay.
@freemo indeed but the social media side has lead to some of the more extreme cultural difference, there’s certainly folks incentivised to raise tensions.
I suppose you could include the media in that. I guess I have a real bee in my bonnet about X right now.
@inpc id say the issue has far more to do with nedia.
The problem is fewer people seem to be developi g these traits as time goes on
Probably ;)

Courage.
I don't justify the rioters, but this is exactly the moment when the media should be a reliable source of information, and not take only 1 point of view.
We in the 90's with our subjective journalists have already burned on it.
I hope that your media have a higher margin of safety (and conscience).
@freemo Sometimes a time delay is the best way to deal with this. Social media gives people information very quickly so if it illicits an emotional reaction, that’s what gets typed in response. I know I’ve been guilty of that and it’s something I’m trying to work on.
It’s been difficult in the UK with the riots. Tensions have been high and I haven’t felt so emotional online for a while. I blocked the person I have very strong disagreements with, I don’t know how I’d get along with them given their view point.
I agree with your sentiment though, however it’s easier said than done.
